Thank you! And a Welcome!
We would like to thank Ms. Young McPherson for her time at St. Joseph starting our art program.
We also want to give a big St. Joseph welcome to Mr. Jason Ratka as the new Art teacher. Mr. Ratka's first official start date is November 15th. See below for his biography:
Born February 19, 1975, Jason Ratka was Baptized and started his Catholic Education
at Holy Family Catholic School/Church in Cahokia, Illinois. He went on to be Confirmed and
graduate from St. Theresa’s Catholic School/Church in Belleville, Illinois. After High School Mr. Ratka attended Junior College before transferring to Southern Illinois University at Carbondale on full ride Art scholarships and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting while pursuing his dreams of becoming a professional soccer player and trying out for Major League Soccer teams.
Mr. Ratka has served 10 years honorably as an enlisted Soldier/ Non-Commissioned
Officer in the United States Army, and his favorite assignment was being selected for an
instructor position at the United States Military Academy (West Point.) Upon completion of his military service he applied and was accepted to the Master’s of Education Program at the
University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he made the School of Visual Arts Dean’s list and was
inducted into the Kappa Delta Pi International Honors Society while earning his Master of
Education Curriculum and Instruction with a Texas teaching certification in Art EC-12.
He made the decision to become a teacher based on faith, service and connection. His
mission is to ultimately serve God, and he believes the best way to achieve that is through
educating children and building meaningful connections/relationships with their families and the community.
