On Thursday, April 4th, Principal Harrison held a senior class meeting with the Class of 2024. Below were the slides shared during the meeting. A mailing will go out to seniors and families during the first week of May.
Nguyen Wins Spellman Oratorical
Congratulations to the following seniors who participated in this year's Spellman Oratorical Contest:
Hope Sylvester, Meghan Gustin, Maggie Elie, Caitlyn Harrington, Gustavo De Paula, Anthony Ciano, Vivian Nguyen, and Tori Hynes. A special thank you to Ms. Kristen Walsh for coordinating the event in collaboration with the English department teachers. Prize money is awarded to each of these 8 finalists; Vivian Nguyen earned first place. Everyone did a fabulous job responding to the essay prompt.
This year's prompt was the following:
A Kaleidoscope of Self: Exploring Identity Through Literature and Art
“Life isn’t about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself.”
-George Bernard Shaw
Humans evolve and adapt to the world and society around them. Artists throughout human history have portrayed these experiences to reflect upon self-discovery, change, and their own identity. Explore how individuals in various works of art form their identities and how outside forces may influence them. Reflect upon how these portrayals work to enlighten audiences about essential aspects of humanity.
Solar Eclipse
On Monday, April 8, 2024, Massachusetts will be experiencing a solar eclipse from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM. You may already be aware of the danger of looking at the sun during the eclipse. Outdoor activity, practices and games will be delayed at RHS until 4:30 PM on Monday, April 8th. Students should proceed with extreme caution as unavoidable exposure to the harmful intensity could happen accidentally. Students should not look directly at the eclipse without proper eye protection. More information can be found at the fact sheet below.

Service Academy Information
Congressman Bill Keating will be hosting a Service Academy Information Night for students and their families on Friday, May 3rd at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
Details about the event can be found here.
The Service Academy Information Night will be an opportunity to learn more about the federal service academies and the unique challenges of cadet life.
Representatives from West Point, the Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy and the Coast Guard Academy will be on hand to answer questions and give their perspectives on each institution’s admissions process. Students will also learn about the Congressional nomination process and receive a nomination application packet for the Class of 2028.
If you plan on attending the information session, please register by calling Congressman Keating’s Plymouth office at 508-746-9000 or email Michael.Jackman@mail.house.gov.
RHS Receives Innovation Pathways Grant
Rockland High School was mentioned in Governor Healey's press release yesterday as a grant recipient to begin the Innovation Pathways work at RHS starting next year. Thank you to History & Social Science Department Head Richard MacAllister for completing the grant work, and leading this important initiative.
We have received designations in Business & Manufacturing.
Below is a nice quote from the press release that explains the Innovation Pathways:
“Innovation Career Pathways provide students with opportunities to explore careers in high-demand industries through partnerships with local employers and workforce boards, so that they can succeed in and out of the classroom,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “These programs are a win for students, for schools, for employers, and for our economy - making Massachusetts a place where families want to live, learn, and work and supporting our fast-growing businesses.”
