Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten Orientation will take place this year on Tuesday, August 9th. Each family will sign up for one appointment for their child. Appointments will begin at 8:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. in the teacher's classroom. The appointment will be 15 minutes long. It is critical that families are prompt because appointments are scheduled back to back. The appointment will not be a parent teacher conference. School supplies should not be brought to the appointment. All school supplies can be brought to Meet the Teacher on August 9th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
During your child’s appointment, parents will complete a beginning of the year survey for your child’s kindergarten teacher. Also, families will view a short video message from Dr. Bishop and Mrs. Todd. The video message will explain important Duello procedures and explain what a typical day is like. After viewing the video message, families are welcome to stop by the main office with further questions.
Meet the Teacher
Duello will hold Meet the Teacher Night on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Our students and parents will have the opportunity to meet teachers and visit our school. Meet the teacher will be held from 5-7 PM.
Students are welcome to bring supplies to this evening.
The First Day of School
The first day of school is Thursday, August 11th. Please remember that the school day begins at 8:20 AM, so arrive on time : )
The school doors open at 8 AM for morning arrival.
School Lunch and Meal Charging
- Students will have a $100.00 charging limit. If your child's balance falls below -$100.00 please make arrangements for your child to bring a lunch to school until the account can be made current.
- Students will not be allowed to charge a la carte* items. They must have money in their account to purchase these items.
- Every Tuesday our Lead Cashiers will send out an email to the parents of students with a negative lunch account balance. If we do not have an email address on file, a letter will be sent home with the child.
- Every Thursday we will send out an automated phone call to parents of students with a negative lunch account balance.
Applications for free and reduced meal prices are available at every school office and here: Free and Reduced.
*Please follow the detailed instructions while filling out the application :) For students to carry over in the free and reduced meal plans, we have to have an application by September 26th.

Attend Today, Achieve Tomorrow
Attendance Matters
Help Your Child Succeed: Build the Habit of Good Attendance
Ways to support Good attendance:
- Set a regular bedtime and morning routine
- Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before
- Arrive at the bus stop 5 minutes early
- Don't let your child stay home unless he/she is truly sick. Keep in minds complaints of stomach ache and headache can be signs of anxiety and not a reason to stay home.
- If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to the teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make him/her comfortable and excited about learning.
- Develop a back up plan for arriving at school if something comes up. Call on family member, neighbor, or friend to help.
- Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.
*If your child is late to school, please make sure to come into the building with them to sign them in. And if they are leaving early, come in to sign them out.
Please communicate with the office if your child will be late, absent, or picked up a different way than normal.
Do NOT respond to the attendance.duello@wsdr4.org-this is NOT an email address. It is only for automated emails. Please email Constance and Judy in the office! Thank you :)
From the Counselors
Welcome back to a new school year!! We hope you had a great summer and are ready to learn lots of new things. We are looking forward to a great year as well. J
Introducing your counselors:
Jacki Fine is the full time counselor and can be reached at jacquelinefine@wsdr4.org
Christy McCulloch is part time (Mon-Wed) and can be reached at christymcculloch@wsdr4.org
Emily Mennemeier is an intern student that will be working with us for the first semester too. We are excited to have her with us at Duello. She will be here every afternoon.
As counselors we work with students in a variety of ways: Classroom lessons: We visit all classrooms once a month to present a variety of lessons including respect, safety, coping skills and career exploration just to name a few. Small groups: Counselors work with small groups of students who may need a little extra support to deal with a variety of issues such as changes in the family, anxiety, anger management, self-control, grief, friendship and self-esteem. Please contact one of the counselors for more information or to request a permission form. Individual support: We are always here to support individuals who are struggling and celebrate successes too. Please let us know how we can help and support students and families.
Career Day “Save the Date”:
During May all classroom lessons focus on careers. We all love to dream big and talk about what we want to be when we grow up!! 4th and 5th graders also participate in presentations given by parents who come and share their careers, experience and advice with us. If you are interested in being a presenter this year, please “Save the Date”!! Career Day will take place on Friday May 5, 2017. More information will be sent home in the winter or you can contact Jacki Fine with questions. Please put us on your calendar. We’d love to have you join us.
