Pāpāmoa Primary
Growing Successful Learners - Whakatipu Mātauranga
Matt's Message
Nice to see the return to normal sunshine today, and thank you for your understanding around our postponement of the Triathlon. While we could have completed the event on Tuesday the wet grounds would not have made it practical with how we set the course up, with towels and clothes on the astroturf.
This makes next week an exciting and action-packed week here at school. Many of you will have seen the information below from our Facebook and Seesaw posts, but we want to make sure that all the information that you need as Whānau is shared with you. This is so that you can all be involved in what is happening, but also so your children are prepared for each day. So apologies if you have read all of this on the other platforms.
NEXT WEEK March 4-8
Next week is shaping up to be a big week at Pāpāmoa Primary. With the Triathlon/Aquathon being postponed until Tuesday, our culture week will include our first-ever colour run on Thursday and Cultural Dress Up Day on Friday.
So you have plenty of time to plan, here are more details of 3 BIG EVENTS
TRIATHLON - TUESDAY 5th
Follow these links to previous FB posts on the details.
COLOUR RUN - THURSDAY 7th 1:25pm
The following video will give you insight into a previous colour run that Mr S has done. Please watch the video it is only 54 sec.
What your Children need.
Togs, Towel, White or light coloured tee shirt.
What is the powder?
The Colour powder is exactly what the name suggests. It is made from cornflour and food-grade colour dyes. We have purchased the colour from the supplier of the colour-run fundraising company, which has ensured that it is safe for both humans and our environment.
Can Parents Come and Watch?
Yes, please come and enjoy the experience of watching your children. Please give your kids the space to enjoy the event and allow our teachers to lead their classes through the experience.
CULTURAL DESS UP DAY - FRIDAY 8th
Many of the world's cultures have amazing cultural outfits that we would like to celebrate, from the Korean Hanbok to the Japanese Kimono and the German Dirndl or Lederhosen.
We want to invite our children to dress up in their cultural costumes for school on this day. We will have a parade of cultures in the morning, and if children would like to bring a change of clothes (not uniform), they are welcome to do so to look after their special outfits.
The thing that always makes me wonder on days like this is what the traditional costume of New Zealand is. The Māori culture has its kākahu, but what is the costume of our nation? Red Bands and a black singlet? All Blacks Jersey... We will again wait and see what our tamariki come dressed as.
Traffic and Parking
Thank you for the positive remarks and comments on our Facebook post regarding school pick-up and following the road rules. We have had some improvement, but I have still had to speak to a number of people still parking on yellow lines... Please remember it does not matter where the yellow lines are... You cannot stop, park, or wait in the car for your children on ANY yellow lines. This includes along the fence line next to Simpson Reserve! As we keep reminding people, make a plan with your kids. Within an extra 2-3 min walk, there is ample parking.
Just so you know, the council will be sending parking officials in the near future as part of their support for better traffic management around our school.
A special message from our local Fire Brigade, too. Please do not park in their car parks. These are for the emergency volunteers should there be a call-out.
While there are lots of things happening next week, I would like to thank the parents of our Year 5-6 students who will be attending our 4 separate camps starting in week 6 (March 11-22). With your support and time off work, these opportunities for our tamariki are possible. We are excited to hear the stories when you come back from Ngatuhoa Lodge in the Kaimais.
Ngā mihi

Please include your child’s name, room and reason for absence.
If your child arrives at school after 8.40am they are late. Please ensure they sign in at the office before going to class. Thank you.
As part of our School-Links communication system, an automated text message will go out to all unexplained absences. This number is a reply once only.
While we understand that families sometimes need to take time away from school, it is essential that we as a school are notified.
Any absence longer than 20 school days will need to be approved in advance by the school principal. You can do this by sending an email to papamoaprimary@papamoa.school.nz explaining the reason for your child's absence and the dates they will be away. If your child is absent for longer than 20 school days the MOE instructs us to remove a child from our school roll. If you live outside of our school zone there is no guarantee that your child will be able to re-enrol at Pāpāmoa Primary School. It's important to keep communication open between us. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please feel free to reach out to us.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in your child's education.
