"We exist so children can excel."
What We're Learning in Challenge
3-4 Challenge
We are working diligently toward completing our novel study of Because of Winn-Dixie. Has your child told you about our newest collaborative learning structure, Milling to Music? If not, ask him/her about it. Incorporating both movement and music, we are learning in such a way that is supported by recent brain research.
Did you realize that today is National Mousse Day? In honor of this day, we read the hilarious book A Chocolate Moose for Dinner, a book that explores homophones, multiple meaning words, and idioms as a young girl pictures in her mind the things her parents talk about. It's clear she doesn't understand what their words really mean. The result is a boatload of fun for the reader!
5/6 Challenge
Speaking of collaborative learning structures, we are utilizing "Put Yourself on the Line" more and more these days. This strategy is particularly helpful as we craft our way through argumentative essentials such as studying both sides of an issue, developing logical reasons for our arguments and effectively presenting both sides of an issue.
Both Classes: Biography Timelines
Students have been repeatedly reminded of their independent reading expectation this nine weeks, the biography. Detailed information about the timeline project was sent home earlier this month. Students are aware that, should they need supplies for this project, they should reach out to me and I'll cheerfully assist. Timelines are due on December 11, but students are more than welcome to bring them on in upon completion. We will be sharing during the week of December 14th.
