April Splash
April 2024
Notes from Principal Lee
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope this newsletter finds you and your family doing well. Now that we are officially into Spring, the end of the year is quickly approaching. There are lots of things that will happen in the next two months.
Students have been busy taking benchmark assessments in math, reading, writing, and science. Teachers will use the data from these assessments and their understanding of each student to continue to meet the needs of their students and to prepare them for STAAR testing which is on April 17 (Reading/ELA for 3rd Grade and Science for 5th Grade), April 18 (Reading/ELA for 4th and 5th Grades), and April 24 (Math for 3rd Grade) and April 25 (Math for 4th and 5th Grades). Please continue to support your student as they work toward demonstrating mastery of grade-level content in preparation for the next grade level.
Please make sure you check out the school calendar. There are lots of activities still to come!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lee

Music Notes from Mrs. Cruz
Hello Hairgrove Family and Friends!
Watch out because we have some very talented students! This month we will be creating in music class. We will be trying new instruments and learning new songs and games. Our 4th and 5th graders will be learning about the recorder and 3rd, 2nd, and 1st graders will be exploring different pitched and unpitched percussion instruments. Our students will be writing their own music using rhythm and pitch syllables! Kindergarten will continue to explore musical opposites focusing on loud and soft and high and low. I can hardly wait to see what music our students create this month.
Important Musical Announcements:
Our 4th & 5th Grade Choir who practice on Thursdays will practice again every Thursday month (April 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th) until 5:00 p.m.
Our 5th Grade Choir/Instrumental Group will continue to practice every Monday morning we have school this month (April 1st, 8th, 22nd, and 29th) at 7:00.
Our upcoming 4th and 5th Grade Choir/Instrument program is Thursday, May 9th at 6:00. Please save that date!
I hope your child/children will share with you something they learned or accomplished in music this month. Their creativity and musicality amazes me and makes me smile. I feel so proud to be their music teacher!
Take care!
Mrs. Courtney Cruz
Notes from Nurse Pollard
HELLO SPRING!!
Happy April Everyone! Spring is here, and the sun is out. Did you know that the majority of the people in the United States are deficient in Vitamin D. Vitamin D is an important component in our bodies, in fact Calcium (what makes our bones strong) is unable to be absorbed and retained without Vitamin D. It is essential for our bone health, immune system, and can reduce inflammation. The sun is a great source for Vitamin D, so get outside, enjoy the fresh air and grow some bone strength!
Friendly Reminders:
As the temperatures are heating up, please make sure your student is bringing a water bottle to school and staying hydrated!
Students need to stay home for a fever of 100.0 and above. They may return to school with doctor clearance or fever free for 24 hours without a fever reducer.
Any form of medication including cough drops and ointments must be checked in with the nurse, and is NOT allowed to be carried by the student.
Pre-K and Kindergarten student parents: Please continue sending an extra set of clean clothes in the student's backpack.

P.E. News:
Dolphin Parents,
It is Soccer season in the gym, so our students are having a great time practicing their skills and playing Soccer related games and activities while enjoying watching their favorite teams playing on the Promethian Board. We have also been talking about seasonal allergies and the causes so they are learning about how the immune system responds to allergens in the environment.
Just a reminder parents, the gym is a very fun place, but can also be dangerous if students are not careful and keeping their distances from others while exercising or playing. Please continue to remind your students to listen, follow directions, and keep their hands and feet to themselves to avoid injuries to others or themselves.
Thank you,
Coach Dyson and Coach Foster
