Upcoming Presentation- Dr. Bradley, an Adolescent Psychologist.
October is Bullying Prevention Month. At LCJSMS, we implement programs all throughout the year that focus on respect, unity, and bullying prevention. During this month especially, we encourage families to have conversations about what it means to be an upstander, respecting others regardless of differences, and when/who to ask for help when faced with difficult social situations.
For information on the district’s HIB policy and procedure, please watch this video.

The event is being offered through the Student Assistance Counselors (SAC) of Summit, Chatham, Millburn, Berkeley Heights, and New Providence Consortium which is committed to offering programs to families that focus on student needs in our communities. Each district will host an awareness forum as part of the Parent Wellness Series with all community members invited to participate. Please reach out to LCJSMS SAC Monica Galasso (mgalasso@summit.k12.nj.us) for more information.
DROP OFF/PARKING CHANGE- Reminder
Student drop off/parking in the back of the building is no longer available for the duration of the construction project. There will be NO through traffic between Oakland and Maple behind the school and students will not be able to use the cafeteria to enter the building. Students should please enter the front entrances to the school.
For safety reasons, we remind parents that completing a u-turn in the middle of Oakland Pl is not permitted and we ask students to please use the crosswalk on the corner of Summit Ave and Oakland Pl to cross the street. Student safety is paramount. We understand the inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate your patience during this time. Please keep in the mind that additional time may be needed in order for students to attend homeroom on time.
8th Grade DC Trip
As many know, our trip to Washington, D.C., was reinstated. As was communicated at the coffee, the cost of the trip has increased because of transportation and lodging. We are adjusting to make the trip more attainable for all our students. Our PTO parent community recently started a GoFundMe to help subsidize the cost of the trip. Please see the link below and consider sharing it with your families, friends, relatives, and loved ones. Thank you for your continued support.

Women in the Workplace Interview Project
Ask a student to interview you about your work experience! The Women in the Workplace Interview project is a video compilation composed of students interviewing significant women in their lives. The project showcases women across various occupations and highlights their contributions. A video compilation of the interviews will be shown in an advisory lesson next year. While any student can submit an interview, eighth graders can earn up to three hours of community service. Students can learn more about the project and submit an interview using the Google Classroom code, jo3ifrx.
Deadline January 19, 2024
Student Identification Badges (Student IDs)
Our school district is placing a strong focus on school safety and security. As such, we are intensifying our focus on students wearing their student IDs at all times throughout the school day. Students who are not wearing their IDs could incur disciplinary consequences, after a certain number of infractions (3 or more per month). We would appreciate the support of our parent community in emphasizing that message at home.
Student Lateness to School
Our school district holds student attendance and timeliness to school as an utmost priority to ensure student academic success. Students with four (or more) tardies per month (regardless of reason) will be assigned a Central Detention. Students will be given additional detentions for subsequent tardy points (8, 12, 16). These totals will be run once per month at the end of the month. Central Detentions are held from 2:55-3:35 PM Tuesday through Thursday. Further, extended detentions (until 5 PM) will be assigned for students with chronic tardiness. Additionally, students may be excluded from school activities for chronic lateness. We know the traffic in this area is a challenge and we are appreciative of parent support in helping students to arrive on time to school each day!
