This Is How We Lakeview
September 2021 Edition: Volume 3
Message from Building Administration
Lakeview Families,
By now, you have likely heard of the behaviors and vandalism that we are seeing in our building. Yesterday and today, building administrators went into each E/I classroom and talked with students about bathroom behavior, hallway behavior, and the insensitive comments that have been reported to us since the beginning of the year. In short, we have a handful of students who are not living up to our expectation of being respectful to each other, our staff, and our building. As we identify students who are responsible for violating the Code of Conduct and our expectations for them, we will address the behavior with appropriate consequences. We also have increased our monitoring of the restrooms and, as part of our E/I conversations, have talked with students so they understand how serious vandalism/damage to school property is and the additional consequences they can face (financial restitution and/or working with school staff to clean the building).
Starting Monday, students will receive a sheet of 12 hall passes that they can use until the end of the first trimester. We strongly encourage students to use the restroom during class transitions. For students who have unused passes at the end of the trimester, they can turn in their sheet for their name to be entered into a drawing for prizes (1 unused pass = 1 name entry).
It is our hope that the limited hall passes cuts down on the number of students in the hallways during class and increases the amount of time students are in class for instruction.

We know there is more to our students than just their grades. We want to support our students Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) so they can develop the skills they need to be successful in life. Recent Updates
- Tying in with the message about behavior at the top of this newsletter, both PBIS sub-groups had lengthy discussions this past week about what additional supports we can provide our students so they can make better choices and, ultimately, respect each other, our staff, and our building.
- These conversations will continue as we meet in PBIS sub-groups. If any families are interested in being a part of our PBIS: Social Justice sub-group, please let Ben Baptist (Lead Assistant Principal) know at ben_baptist@plsd.us, or call him at (614) 830-2281. We would love to have more family involvement with PBIS this year to help us shape our work with our students as we work toward our goal of ensuring that every student feels welcomed and valued in our building.
- Has your student done something awesome or noteworthy? Do you want to celebrate them and their accomplishments? In future Community Corners, we hope to highlight more of our students through the Student Spotlight feature. We have updated the Family Feedback Form to include an area where you can share the details that you want to highlight about your student. Check it out!
