Twitter 101
Getting Started
1. Create a Twitter account. Choose your username (handle carefully).
2. Start following at least 5 people on twitter. Click here to find educators to follow on twitter.
2. Start Tweeting!
Twitter Basics
- Search Twitter - https://www.twitter.com/search
- A tweet is a message that you create in twitter that contains no more than 140 characters
- In your tweet you can have a link, a picture, or a hashtag. Make sure you shorten your links http://goo.gl/
- # is a hashtag -- it's a way to group everything together... you can search using a hashtag an see all the current information on the topic
- Click here to see a list of educational hashtags. examples of hashtags - #edtech, #mathchat
- @ is a mention -- when you want to reply to someone publicly
- examples of a mention -- @l_cobbs, @friedtechnology, @edtechchic
- To direct message someone type a d in the tweet box and then find their name
- You can only send a direct message to someone that follows you
- RT is a retweet
Building Your Professional/Personal Learning Network (PLN)
- Your Personal Learning Network is all of the websites, resources, and people that you use to collaborate and learn.
- Twitter is a great way to build your own Professional/Personal Learning Network (PLN)
- Your PLN can help you connect with other educators in your field and help you find valuable resources
