In The Know
Churchill High School Welcomes Life Skills Program in 2020-21 - We are excited to announce that Churchill has been chosen to host a Life Skills program, a return to former glory and success. Life Skills programs provide specialized placement for students with developmental disabilities who need opportunities to gain functional academic skills along with skills they will need in everyday life. These might include self-care, self-advocacy, and independence. Students are placed into a Life Skills program as a part of our district special education process. Some common features of Life Skills programs include:
Higher level of staff support and a very low adult-to-student ratio
Opportunities for students to engage in functional academics and adaptive PE and music
Opportunities for students to learn functional daily routines
Participation in general education class settings with direct support from Life Skills staff
Our Churchill community is diverse and committed to our core values of inclusion, respect, and appreciation-- we believe every student is an important member of our learning community, no matter their experience or background. By welcoming a Life Skills program to our school, we have a unique opportunity to embrace our vision of educating empathetic and compassionate global citizens.
We look forward to a successful transition for our new program as we partner together-- district staff, Churchill staff and students, Life Skills staff and students, and all our families. Life Skills at Churchill will be in place by the time school starts back up in September and we will be integrating the new program into our existing school schedule.
We eagerly await the chance for students and families to make connections, forge new friendships, and welcome our new program!
#LoveTeaching
I'm gearing up for the start of #LoveTeaching week. Join me on social media in spreading the love of teachers and teaching!
#LoveTeaching Week is a grassroots campaign started by teachers in 2015 as an opportunity to celebrate teaching, leading, and learning in a way that unites and invigorates educators and those they inspire all around the world.
Every year, Valentine's Day marks the beginning of a week-long conversation that aims to illuminate why teachers enter and remain in the field of education, offering a mindset shift from the seemingly singular focus on the challenges of the profession. Listed below are opportunities to participate. For more information, templates, activities, etc. check out the website at https://www.weloveteaching.org/

Thank you parent volunteers, thank you for all of your generosity this week! The CHS Staff luncheon was so beautiful and so delicious! I heard many, many eager comments from staff members on how excited they were about Tuesday's lunch! Everyone expressed such appreciation, and said that it smelled so good all morning long! They were all truly so grateful and thankful. Barely anything was left at the end of the school day; they enjoyed it all!

Way to go Lancers!
Thank you Lynne Given for sharing with staff. Huge kudos to Leah Dunbar, Jennifer Scurlock, and Keri Pilgrim for supporting the Women's Empowerment Club. This AWESOME line-up of speakers shared perspectives with the Women's Empowerment Club this last week. The club hosted a Black Women Seminar in celebration of Black History Month and the speakers shared their personal stories. This student club is doing amazing things, which they organize all on their own. We should all be proud of these strong student leaders here at Churchill.
