Principal's Update
From Dr. Duffy, James Monroe High School
April 2, 2021
Extended Daily Schedule
As you know from past newsletters, phone calls and alerts, we are moving toward a more normal school day starting Tuesday, April 6th. The schedule below outlines precisely which classes you will have each day during the new afternoon blocks. This longer day allows students to have their classes during the regularly scheduled times and have SOL testing, if needed, during the afternoons. The extended day schedule operates on a two-week rotation, which will repeat every two weeks. Note that since there is no school on Monday, April 5, that day is in dark grey.
Instructional Plan
Students are required to attend each of their classes, from 9:00-3:00 each day, with Wednesdays still serving as asynchronous days. Your classes from 9:00-12:50 will remain the same. The most significant change is that in-person students will eat lunch at school (socially distanced). Everyone will then attend two 45-minute blocks in the afternoon to provide additional instructional time in their classes. These classes will include review, guided practice, and most importantly, extensions of the learning presented in the morning blocks. Students will able to complete work during this time to improve their academic standing in each class.
Food Service
Breakfast will continue to be provided as students enter the building. Lunch will be provided from 11:55-12:25, socially-distanced in the commons and in classrooms if necessary, depending on the number of students.
Water bottles and a bottle filling station are available in the Commons.
Testing
Students have already been contacted about End of Course tests held on the following dates:
