Why are Macromolecules Important to Learn?
protien
polymer- proteins are polymer of amino acids
function- proteins do a lot of work in cells and are essential for the structure. they also are important for our tissues and organs
examples- 3 examples of proteins are fibrous, globular, and membrane
carbohydrates
polymer- starch, glucose, cellulose, and chitin are are complex carbohydrates
function- the main function is to provide energy to your body
examples- rice, whole grains, beans, bread, oats, and French fries are all examples of carbohydrates.
lipids
polymer- lipids are a group of molecules categorized water insoluble
function- storing energy and making membranes
examples- they do not dissolve in water and they are fat-like molecules
nucleic acid
polymer- DNA and RNA
function- they make up the genetic format of living things and it creates your DNA and RNA
examples- 5 examples of nucleic acids are cytosine, guanine, thymine, uracil, and adenine
