Week of 4/20-4/24
Mr. Black
Mr. Cetro
This week, students in math continued instruction in the ratios and proportions unit focusing on proportions in a variety of contexts. They accessed online learning through IXL. This next week, students in math will continue the ratios and proportions unit through IX, focusing on proportions in a variety of contexts and using ratios to find population estimates.
This week, students in reading continued engaging in individualized reading instruction, utilizing decoding strategies to continue mastery. Next week, students in reading will continue to receive individualized instruction.

3rd hour:
This week - Students created comic strips to show social problem solving.
Next week - Students will continue to apply previously learned skills about social problem solving in a variety of ways.
6th hour A days:
This week- Students worked on compound sentences, pragmatic language skills and vocabulary.
Next week: B day students will use SIMS strategy to continue work with compound sentences. They will complete a variety of activities to reinforce those skills. A day students will complete activities to strengthen reading comprehension. All students will complete a vocabulary activity.

1st hour:
This week:Students will read a technical text for key ideas and details. Then they will look at vocabulary and word meanings in a history text.
Next week: Students will read an information text for word meanings and vocabulary in both Science and History. Then they will look at text structure for these selections.
6th hour:
This week: Students worked on interpreting linear expressions.via Khan Academy and IXL.
Next week: Students will self-assess by taking an online quiz over Combining Like Terms, The Distributive Property and Equivalent Expressions, and Interpreting Linear Expression. Then they will begin an Introduction to Two-Step Equations. 7th hour: This week: Students applied RCRC to questions and answers on Google Documents. Next week:.Students will apply RCRC to a Chapter Summary.

This week in ELA 7: Students read chapter chp 5 and 6 of the Hunger Games and began thinking about a possible theme with Summaries. Next week they will be reading chp 7-8 of Hunger Games and making connections to characters. They will also be writing in the perspective of a character and explain what they would do.
This week in ELA 8:Students read Ghost Boys chapter 2-3 and madeconnection, asked questions, and wrote a summary. Next week they will be reading chapter 4-7 and continue making connections to the text as well as note taking. .
This week in LS 2nd hour: Students used advanced organizers to organize facts from informational text to compare contrast. Next week students will continue the idea of compare/contrast with a graphic organizer in order to look at the pros/cons of school uniforms and write a summary. Finally the students will write an opinion on school uniforms based on information from the articles.

7th hour: This week we started our figurative language portion of blogging. Each student saw different examples of figurative language (similes, metaphors, hyperboles, onomatopoeias, etc) in different popular songs. They were asked to use one example of figurative language in their blog post for this week. The students are still being asked to read 15 minutes a day and will have a check-in at the end of every week. Next week we will start on poetry and incorporating it in their blogs.
3rd hour A/B: This week we continued to support the instruction being taught in Math 7 and 8. We used Khan academy for reviewing the subjects that are being taught in Math 7 and 8.

ELA
This week:
Students reviewed vocabulary and high-frequency words based on Unique Learning Systems monthly unit of study: Economics. Students applied previously taught reading strategies to the Introduction, leveled book, A Bank is Helpful in Unique Learning Systems (including a shared and independent reading). Students reviewed capitalization and punctuation rules. They also reviewed a previously taught writing checklist and writing strategies, as well as used digital tools to develop a journal entry “My day was…”
Next week:
Students review vocabulary and high-frequency words based on Unique Learning Systems monthly unit of study: Economics. Students will apply previously taught reading strategies during a shared and independent reading of Ch.1, Mark Wants a Video Game System, and Ch. 2 Mark Gets Hired in Unique Learning Systems. Students will review punctuation and capitalization rules. They will also review a previously taught writing checklist and writing strategies, as well as use digital tools to develop 3-5 sentence letter/card to a friend or family member that they miss, using digital tools or hand-write. Students will practice the life skills of addressing and putting a stamp on an envelope, and then mail the letter from home.
Vocational Skills
This week:
Students reviewed previously taught social skills strategies in Zones of Regulation and applied these to social daily living and job-related scenarios. Students will continue to review a rating system (Independence, Prompts, and Modeling) for Hard Skills and apply to a new weekly in-home job routine selection. Students will complete an evaluation of the job. Students will continue to review workplace and safety signs activities, as well as choose a job simulation activity in the area of mailroom, restaurants, packaging, or stocking in Unique Learning systems. Students will complete a practice job application form using their personal information.
Next week:
Students will review previously taught social skills strategies in Zones of Regulation and apply these to social daily living and job-related scenarios. Students will also create their own Zones of Regulation toolkit for home. Students will continue to review a rating system (Independence, Prompts, and Modeling) for Hard Skills and apply to a new weekly in-home job routine selection. Students will complete an evaluation of the job. Students will continue to review workplace and safety signs activities, as well as choose a job simulation activity in the area of mailroom, restaurants, packaging, or stocking in Unique Learning systems. Students will review what a Resume is and will update their resume (from last year) using their personal information sheet and input from parents.
Math

Students reviewed previously taught math strategies for counting to the next dollar using the Dollar Up strategy, counting money using TouchMoney strategy, and for adding and subtracting money using Touchpoint math, counting backward, using a 100’s chart and using a calculator. Students will complete math activities that pertain to personal goals. Students will utilize supplemental math via iXL to review basic math concepts.

Science/Social Studies:
This week:
Students read a book in EPIC! about Earth Day, April 22nd. Students learned and completed vocabulary activities related to Reducing, Recycling and Reusing. Students will also complete a map skills activity, chose an experiment related to the Earth Day theme from EPIC books, and followed multi-step directions to create a “Dirt Cup” cooking activity.
Next week:
Students will read a weekly news article called Sharing Happiness.. They will complete an multi-step experiment that follows the Scientific Method process called Walking Water Rainbow to reinforce that real rainbows are created by water droplets (previous unit of study), water is a liquid, and water can move through certain materials; also that many people are creating pictures of rainbows to share happiness during the pandemic. Students complete a map skills activity that involves navigating a neighborhood. Students will review grocery store departments, storage sort of ingredients needed for weekly cooking activity, as well as a Healthy shopping activity to review food groups. Students will complete multi-step cooking activity called Rainbow Fruit Salad
Ms. Pangelinan
Wilson Reading: This week students practiced their reading skills by listening to voice recordings of our novel and sharing their thoughts in writing and verbally in our zoom sessions. They completed a ReadWorks comprehension story and practiced reading Wilson words from 4.1 and timing themselves for 3 readings. Next week, Students will continue listening to voice recordings of our novel and completing response logs. They will use flipgrid to create a video of themselves reading sentences from 4.1 and practice comprehension skills on iXL
ELA 8: This week students listened to voice recordings of our novel, Ghost Boys and answered some comprehension questions. Students also participated in a discussion of our novel during our zoom session.The students created a Cinquain poem and completed a ReadWorks comprehension passage. Next week, students will continue reading our novel and responding to comprehension/discussion questions. They will write a Diamante poem and practice comprehension skills on iXL.
Learning Strategies math: This week students worked on mixed operations word problems and practiced reading clocks and writing times. Next week, students will work with circles. They will watch a couple of math antics videos to help them find circumference and area of circles.
Learning Strategies ELA: This week students continued listening to voice recordings of a novel and responded to some comprehension questions. Next week, I hope students show up to our Zoom session so we can discuss the literary elements of our novel. The students will also start another writing assignment describing the pros and cons of distance learning.
