Newsletter Week 2 -Term 2 2021
St Joseph's Catholic School Morrinsville May 11th 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora Koutou,
We hope that everyone had a lovely Mother's Day, celebrating the special people in our lives that are mothers to us. We know that this can be in so many ways. You do an incredible job and we thank you!
A special welcome to Lucy Hindman, who is brand new to school. Lucy is in Akonga Hub and is so lucky to have her big brother Noah looking out for her. A special welcome to Tiffany and Angelo Pagatpat to St Joes. Tiffany is in Room 5 and Angleo is in Room 6. They have moved up from the South Island. We are so excited to have Lucy, Tiffany, Angelo and their families in our school.
Our Catholic Special Character Review took place last week. We had amazing feedback about our school, students, staff and community. It was a great opportunity to showcase all of the great learning and work that is taking place. When the report is released, we will share it with you. Thanks to those who took the time to give important feedback which was given to the review team.
Next Monday onwards we would like all students to be in full winter uniform. If you need support with uniform items, please do not hesitate to get in touch. We also have some second hand uniforms available, just see the staff Robyn or Carolyn in our office.
We wish all the children who are doing winter sports all the very best for the season. Our netball teams have their first games this week. Go St Joes!
Coming home today with the eldest is our Term 2 Planner and Student Led Conference information.
Have a great week and God bless.

Linewize partnership
As part of our ongoing commitment to excellence and our duty to ensure students’ safety and well-being, we’re proud to announce that we have introduced Linewize technologies.
Linewize is New Zealand’s leading provider of cyber safety technology. Linewize helps us to ensure our students are safe and on task during school time.
We have deployed Linewize filtering technology on our school network, school account and to primary learning devices/all devices that connect to our school network. This is critical to our efforts to protect your children online during school time and when they are using their school account, whether your child is connected to the school’s network or not (such as though mobile hotspotting).
YOUR TURN
As part of our Linewize account, we have secured the family zone package. This means that as parents, you are able to support your child at home on devices they are using. Some of the features include managing gaming, streaming, and screen time. You can also restrict what the children are able to access.
We will be sending more information to you through our Seesaw so you can get a good understanding of the family zone programme.

Baptism
We would like to invite you to think about having your child/children baptised.

Calling for Master Chefs for Our Schools Weekly
Thursday Sausage Sizzle
Master Chefs are required urgently approximately once per term for
1.5 hours on a Thursday to cook sausages and clear away.
When numbers allow, two Chefs usually work together using frypans in the school hall, producing top quality browning on those yummy sausages.
We welcome parents, grandparents or friends of the school to lend a hand, as many of our seasoned cooks are stepping down as their children move on from school.
All money raised goes towards off setting costs of student class trips or camps. We would love to hear from you.
Please email either odettes@netsmart.net.nz admin@stjoes.school.nz
or phone the office on 8895306.

Reflection
The Ascension
- This Sunday, we celebrate the Ascension.
- The Ascension of Jesus is one of the accepted doctrines of Christianity. The Apostles' Creed, Nicene Creed, and Athanasian Creed all confess that Christ ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father.
- During the ascension of Jesus, a cloud obscured him from sight. In the Bible, a cloud is often the expression of God's power and glory, as in the book of Exodus, when a pillar of cloud guided the Jews in the desert.
- The Old Testament records two other human ascensions in the lives of Enoch (Genesis 5:24) and Elijah (2 Kings 2:1–2).
- The ascension of Jesus allowed eyewitnesses to see both the resurrected Christ on earth and the victorious, eternal King returning to heaven to rule on his throne at the right hand of God the Father forever. The event is another instance of Jesus Christ bridging the gap between the human and the divine.
