A Newsletter for Beaverton School District Employees
June 2017 Issue
Please welcome Tom Colett to the Beaverton School Board - Zone 7
Tom works as a Government Liaison/Field Representative for Laborers' Local 483. He graduated from Portland State University with a BA in English and holds a Masters in Fine Arts in writing from Bard College. He was co-facilitator of the Beaverton School District Music Task Force.
Four current School Board Members were re-elected to four-year terms including Chair Anne Bryan, Susan Greenberg, Donna Tyner and LeeAnn Larsen in Zones 2, 1, 4 and 5.
Budget Committee approves 2017-2018 Budget
The proposed budget of $1,076,300,812 is the result of the financial goals set by the School Board, staff, students, and community, and the work of the 38 member Internal Budget Team (IBT). This budget proposal builds on some of the multiyear strategic investments we made last year while recognizing the very real financial challenges the state faces with funding programs and services, including K-12 schools.
The School Board will hold a Budget Hearing on Monday, June 12, 2017, prior to their regular Business Meeting at which time they are expected to adopt the budget and approve appropriations. There will be an opportunity for public comment.
The Multilingual Department is Moving!
During this transition, the current office is in “chaos.” Staff is being asked to work in different parts of the office and in available training rooms away from their desks as furniture is broken down and moved.
Staff will be using their laptops during the move but please expect a delay in responding to emails and phone calls. Also, please expect delays in responding to translation and interpretation requests. Staff will absolutely respond to emergencies so please call the main number (503) 356-3755 if you need immediate assistance.
Thank you in advance for your patience as we make this transition.

Monthly Tech Tip: End of Year Procedures
As in years past, teachers will turn their laptops, along with the power cord, adapters, and cases, into their schools for the summer. For teachers who need the laptop during the summer for required District work, a school administrator may grant an exception and allow them to use it throughout the summer. For these exceptions, staff needs to fill out this form following administrator approval:
https://goo.gl/forms/YkGJlwlKL1LdXzwI2.
*Note: Staff who will be transferring to a different school should check their laptop into their former school in the spring and return to the former school in the fall to check it out for the 2017-2018 school year.
End of the Year Technology Tips and how to Backup Files:
Before leaving for summer break:
- Submit a BSD Help Desk ticket for any improperly working computers.
- Backup locally stored files on your hard drive (including photo and music libraries)
Important Volunteer Reminders
Volunteers are an important part of the WE in the District’s goal of WE empower all students to achieve post-high school success.
As a reminder, for the safety and welfare of students and staff, ALL volunteer activities must be coordinated and tracked through myvolunteerpage.com, the District’s online volunteer management system. Volunteers must sign in and sign out through the volunteer computer located in the school front office.
To use the computer sign in, volunteers need the username and password they created for the Volunteer and Background Check Application process. To retrieve, or reset either of these, go to myvolunteerpage.com and click on the “Forgot Username or Password” link. The username and a temporary password will be emailed to them. To create a new permanent password, click on the “My Profile” tab on your myvolunteerpage.com home page. Please write down and save these for future use.
Myvolunteerpage profiles are NOT linked to student information and will not follow volunteers to a new location. In preparation for the 17/18 school year, please ask volunteers send an email to update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us if their student will be moving to a new grade level or if they fall within a new high school boundary.
If a volunteer is no longer volunteering, please have them email update_volunteer_locations@beaverton.k12.or.us and indicate that they would like to remove their profile from the system.
