The Hungate Echo
Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Summer Term 1 - Issue 1
A word from Mr Broom.
It's been a busy week in school with pupil progress meetings taking place to look at where our children are and what the next steps need to be. I must say I've been so impressed with the progress our children are making, particularly in Mathematics in Key Stage 2 and in Writing in Key Stage 1 and Foundation Stage. There's a real buzz to the learning at Sherburn Hungate and I'm looking forward to some good outcomes at the end of the year.
We began learning our first 'School Will Rock You' song on Wednesday. The Queen musical is our end of year performance this year and I've been putting the finishing touches to the script. As soon as SATs are out of the way, Miss Horner and myself will be sharing the script with the children in readiness for auditions for the many parts on offer.
I'd like to finish by saying a thank you to Mr Wooffindin on his first week with us. Mr Wooffindin has completed many jobs around school as well as leading some super PE sessions in Nursery, clearing out the Key Stage 1 sandpit and engaging Castleford Tigers in some excellent rugby coaching for Year 3 and Year 4.
Next week, we look forward to our Friends of Hungate meeting on Monday night. I'm out quite a bit next week, visiting the Academies Show in London and then attending the Headteacher's Induction in Northallerton. I hope you have a great week ahead.
Football Success
In the second half, we were up hill and the heat started to take its toll. The game finished 5-1 to the visitors but the improvement in our game was evident by all. The scoreline flattered our visitors who knew they had been in a game!
Congratulations to Toby our 'Man of the Match' too!

Attendance
Congratulations to our Year 6 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 100%!
Our average attendance this week is a whopping 98.3%. The first time this year that all year groups have been above the magic 96%. A tremendous achievement.
We have a small number of children whose attendance is well below the national expectations. These children are known as persistently absent when their attendance falls below 90%. I will be making telephone calls to parents of these children.
Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.
