Traveling around Texas
Learning about the other regions of texas
Day 1: Galveston
Natural Site: the beach
today I decided sense Galveston is really close to the ocean I decided that when I got over to there I would go to the beach but my mind was changed when I felt the temperature at Galveston. it was freezing! why would they even have a beach at this cold temperature? all I know if that I saw a huge wall leading to the beach and I wondered what it was. it turns out its for stopping title waves.
Cultural Site
Galveston has a big birding thing going on. it is one of the best place to go birding. if you want you can go and snap some pictures of some of the wonderful birds that you will find there. birding is so liked in Galveston that there's in fact a Gide made to help people find the best locations to go birding and what routs to go onto and how to get that great picture
Historical Site
this entire city use to be a really grand city. it was the most populated city in all of Texas and it attracted a lot of tourists that wanted to go to the beach and see the big city and how great it is to live there. at that time it was bigger than Dallas and Huston until the great storm came. when the hurricane came in it killed over 6000 people! so many people they couldn't even bury them all! there was just too much! sadly after the storm the city lost its place as the most populated city. its not what it use to be. it is still a tourist attraction but not like it use to be. the city is still regrowing and rebuilding and building to prevent this from ever happening again though and maybe in time it may regrow into what it use to be!
Day 2: Houston
Natural Site:
even though Huston is a big city with big buildings you can still get a nice beautiful view of nature in some of its natural parks. one of its natural parks is its Manson Park. Manson Park is a lovely part of Houston. it lets you see nature and a lovely view of a lake. you can green land everywhere and somethings always growing.
Cultural Site
Huston really has a ton of cultures but one main thing is the same. its in a big city. culture is not just how you eat or how you get dressed its also how you live. people in Houston live in a big city like life. it has big buildings and apartments and has plenty of streets for you to get around. there is some traffic and there an be a problem for parking at a big attraction.
Historical Site
as you probably heard on any kind of move showing the first steps on the moon you have problem heard the phrase "Houston, we have a problem" well that's because spaces Apollo Mission control center was built in Houston. in fact Houston is the first word said on the moon! Houston had a big importance on the Apollo Mission and in getting to the first steps on the moon.
Day 3: FT. Worth
culture
Ft. worth culture is more like what most people would think of Texas it has people riding horses around like you would think people may. but it has a small twist. it inset fully how you think it would be like it has cars transporting cattle and such and some businesses nothing really huge and it has plenty of open space
nature
FT worth has tons of green land and everywhere you see has grass growing every house has some kind of yard and most companys have some green land outside they have tons of trees and plenty of green patches
history
FT worth use to be the big area where most of the cattle was brought down by cowboys because of that their culture is a lot like the old west. that was the whole towns purpose and because of the cowboys they made plenty of money selling beef that the cowboys brought down there.
day 4:kerrville
culture
today I went to the museum of western art, there I saw master peaces. they had some good art in there. some of it looked as if it was Indian culture but I can tell that someone in Kerrville is great at art
history
Kerrville's name may sound weird but so do many last names! Kerrville was actually named after a young soldier that was the first one to settle there named Major James Kerr and the city was named after him.
geography
Kerrville has a big river where they can get their water and electricity. kerrville was settled agence the bed of water and because of it water is one less problem.
Day 5:midland
culture
midland has been in many and many competition for making art. they have won it over and over making both props and masterpieces. it has been working in it for over 45 years and is the region's largest orchestral organization and is very skilled at making art.
history
midland has a history of being a stop for people going to El Paso and Ft. worth and has been a part of the cattle drive. they allso had tons of booms over the years. they have had clean water and fire systems made and started doing good. but then not long later they struck black gold! I learned that midland is rich beacuse of its oil fields that they have located and became big because of it.
geography
geography isn't the most big thing in midland but I do know something I can speak about. oil. midland has a ton of oil and has made its living drilling into the earths core and getting that out.
Day 6:plainview
geography
Plain View has farmland that they grow stuff like cotton to gain a profit other than that there's not much else
history
plain view has got more big and big because of a rail road station next to it. it let people go from and to plain view. today it brings cotton and cargo from and to plain view but because of the train more people know and go to plain view
Day 7:El Paso
history
El Paso use to be controlled by the Mexican government. for a long time it was out of Texas. being so close to the border. it was cut off from new mexico during the compromise of 1850. it has the really right next to it so that was used as a border blocking it form new mexico preventing them from ever crossing.
culture
El Paso's culture is influenced by mexico with it being to close to mexico it has all sorts of Mexican traits. they have stores that are like a Mexican store area where they can get food and music. sadly they cant go down to a city that is in mexico that has all sorts of stuff because of a border but because of the border being placed. the place lost money and turned corrupt. being a very dangerous place. so by now there will be no need to go down there
geography
they have the Rio Grande next to them where they can get some water and get clean water. they have nice and green grass and have a lot of land
Day 8:Ft. Stockton
history
Ft. Stockton use to be called Camp Stockton because it was used by military. it has old some old houses and old schools that were used by military like the oldest school that was used as a telegraph office.
geography
Ft. Stockton has water from a nice little river they have next to them called
Pecos river because of the river they are able to get water for their crops
and drink water so they can live.
