Session One of Summer School Has Been a Hit!
Students have enjoyed their first session of summer school programming! They experienced many different activities: making snack mix, playing with Winnie the Therapy Dog, earning shoe tokens as they walk across America, racing go-carts, building Lego machines, creating new personas with face makeup in drama class and so much more!
Students who only signed up for Session One are now asking their parents if they can sign up for one or more additional sessions! That's success!
Scroll to the bottom for many more great pictures of our students enjoying summer school activities!

Summer Boot Camp - New this summer - Aug. 30 & 31 "Transportation Provided"
There will be two days of "Transportation Provided" Summer School for the Elementary
ELIGIBLE STUDENTS:
Students going into Kindergarten through 6th grades are eligible to attend these two days of summer school. (Incoming 4K students will not attend on these two days).
PURPOSE:
The theme for these two days is "Boot Camp"! It will be two days of hard-fun!
Our aim and intent is to provide a wide variety of wellness, enrichment, and physical activities for our students in order to gear up for the school year, get in a positive mindset, bond with their school family, and become acquainted with our new social emotional rituals, routines, problem-solving strategies, and team building activities.
SCHOOL DAY:
The school day will be from 8:12 am - 3:25 pm - breakfast starting @ 7:45 am.
BUSSING:
Our busses will be running regular routes on these two days, so be sure that you have your bus calendars taken care of if your child(ren) need an alternative pick up or drop off location. This must be done at Registration (Aug. 7, 8, or 9).
MEALS:
Breakfast, snack, and lunch will be provided free of charge for all students attending Boot Camp!
MENTOR GROUPS:
We know that children can be more successful when they have positive role models in their lives, therefore we are piloting a Mentor Program for all of our elementary students.
Nearly every staff member at the elementary will be a "Mentor" to a small group of students for the entirety of their elementary career. I too, will be a mentor for 8 students. During the school year these School Families will meet every Monday for 20 minutes at the start of the school day.
Each Mentor Family, AKA "School Family" has a range of students from 4K to 6th grade, just like in any other family, there's a mix of ages.
These two days of Boot Camp will allow each School Family to get to know each other and to bond. The big kids helping the little kids and the little kids having the opportunity to look up to the big kids.
WHAT TO BRING:
Students must come in tennis shoes and clothing that can get dirty
Bring a water bottle
Come with sunscreen applied before arrival
PRESENTATIONS:
Students who attend both days of Boot Camp will get a “Survived Boot Camp” Dog Chain at the Presentation Ceremony on the 2nd day.
REGISTRATION:
Because this is transportation provided summer programming we require each student who is planning to attend Boot Camp to register at the elementary during Registration (see Registration details above).
OPEN HOUSE - Sept. 5th - 10 am - 6 pm
I have been working with elementary staff and families to plan our Fall Open House on September 5th. We took into consideration the ideas and feedback from our last Open House to make this Open House Plan. Thank you Open House Committee, Mrs. Goettl
Classroom Visit Timeframes:
One of the main concerns parents communicated was they didn't have time to visit each of their children's classrooms if they had two or more students in the elementary. In an effort to respond to this concern we have "planned timeframes for classroom visits". You will need to sign up for one timeframe for each child's classroom. This will allow you to get all of the needed information from each classroom, without having teachers stop and repeat what they have just said, because people are coming in at various different times. Each teacher will present their classroom information during each of the 10 designated time frames. There will be 15 min. in between each time frame so that families can travel from one room to another.
No Main Presentation:
Another main concern was with the large presentation in the gymnasium. This year there will be no "Main Presentation" but many stations for families to visit on their own. This way families can come and go as they please before and after their chosen timeframes for their classroom visit(s).
Stations in the Gymnasium:
Positive feedback we received about last year was the many community groups who were present in the gym. We have planned for this again and will be adding to the offerings. Not only will there be youth organizations represented (Girl/Boy Scouts, 4H Groups, Cheer Squad, Girls on the Run, Youth Athletics, etc.) but also many health and community agencies (River Source Family Center, Chippewa County Immunization Clinic, Bright Smiles, etc.). We will also have our specials teachers in the gymnasium so that you can meet them in person and I will be there welcoming children and families on an individual basis and answering any questions you may have.
Sign up for a Classroom Visit Timeframe:
In order to provide time for each child and their family to have a quality classroom visit, we are requiring families to sign up for a specific classroom visit timeframe. You will be able to do this when you stop in the elementary during one of the Registration Dates (Aug. 7, 8, 9).
