Writing:
We are busy working on our latest Informational (non-fiction) unit. Students are learning that we are writing to 'teach' instead of 'telling" a story. Earlier in the year, we wrote to teach "ALL About" something. This unit focuses on writing to teach "How to" do something.
Recipes are a great example of "How to" writing! You can help by letting your child help at home and discussing the steps used.
Reading:
We will continue to practice using our vowel power, focusing on confusing sounds such as short /e/ and short /i/.
At this time, students should be able to "chop" a word into sounds and then blend the sounds to read. We continue to practice until this skill is automatic and your child can instantly decode CVC words when reading.
Students continue to practice and master the different sight word lists on the Rainbow. Praise your littles often for their hard work as they continue to progress.
Congratulations to those students who have completed their whole rainbow! Happy Reading!
We will also be joining and separating sets to add and subtract (using symbols +/-).
We continue to practice counting forwards to 100 from ANY number, not just always starting at one. For example, can your child start at 26 and count to 60?
Science and Social Studies
In Science, we will study the sun and moon.
In Social Studies, we will continue our unit on Texas Heroes and Culture
