Current highlights
CIS is working on doing a uniform/hygiene drive.
CIS is working on starting a male mentoring program for the boys.
Elizabeth is joining the team and is a CIS tutor who is in class helping out CIS students.
CIS has started groups during lunch and are taken place in the science room right next to the lunch room.
Goals Accomplished /Challenge
- A challenge we still have is getting students to bring signed PCs back but Mr. Cordoba suggested working with the main office to do “call outs” So our goal is to formulate a list of returning CIS students who have not returned PCs to the main office with a phone message so they can conduct call outs. Another goal we have been working on is to finalize our lunch groups. We have been thinking of ways to split students up by their needs and lunches to be able to make a list and give tickets out to those students and let them know on which days they will meet with us during lunch.
- CIS was able to get the campus planed signed and have a productive meeting with the principal. We were able to address concerns that have limited us with space to have groups in, setting strategies in increasing CIS participation, and being able to be more involved with the school. The principal is understanding and is making sure that CIS has the resources needed.
Student Success Story/Volunteer Brag
- One of the CIS volunteers who has been working with a CIS student for the past three years requested to be a volunteer/mentor again. Once the volunteer updated her volunteering information and her background check was cleared CIS was able to get the student and the volunteer/mentor back in contact, they have started their weekly meetings and the student seems to be enjoying having a mentor.
- CIS student Jerni T. passed her reading common assessments with a 92%.
School Committee
Parenting Corner
CIS conducted about 20 home visits to introduce ourselves and let parents know of the services we offer and let them know that we are in the schools every day for their student.
CIS conducted 2 home visits for the school to help promote attendance and provide information bout the organization.
CIS is getting feedback from the parents on how they would like to get involved with the school and strategized more parent involvement.
Upcoming Events
- CIS was able to get the Police department to come and talk to each grade level during Red Ribbon week.
