Wauwatosa Montessori School
October 23, 2020
Dear Families:
Reminders heading into the weekend regarding next week at Montessori:
- Cohort A - all learning is virtual for your Oct. 26th & 27th synchronous days
- Cohort B - Tosa Connected and Phase into Learning students have synchronous learning on Oct. 28th & 29th this week.
- Friday, Oct. 30th - No classes for students district wide, PTSA Virtual Halloween Party @ 6:00pm
On October 26th, the School Board will listen to a presentation on the details of the district plan for the five day learning PHASE. Then, on November 2nd, the School Board will look to approve the proposed details of the plan for our five day learning PHASE. This plan will provide for families the details regarding instructional delivery for their child should our metrics indicate we are ready to move to the five day learning PHASE. It will be important for all families to understand these details in order to make an informed decision about their preference for their child's Trimester 2 Model of Instruction.
On November 3-8 families of elementary students (JK-6th grade at Montessori) will be able to select their choice for their Trimester 2 Model of Instruction (Phased Into Learning, Tosa Connected, Wauwatosa Virtual). Families do choose their Model of Instruction for Trimester 2. Families do not choose the Phase of learning (Five day, Hybrid, Virtual). The Phase is determined by the School Board, using the established metrics. Middle and High School students select their model of instruction by the Semester and will have a chance to reselect in early December.
On November 2nd, our School Board will also make a determination about the PHASE of Learning (Five day, Hybrid, Virtual) in which we will begin December 1st.
Please stay tuned for the November 2nd School Board Meeting and the important information it will yield. You can always reach out if you have any questions!
Sincerely,
Ms.Imperiale
Principal

Updates from our District Nurses
Student Illness Checker
As we move through the school year, will continue to proactively provide families with resources that help answer critical questions. For that reason, we have developed this Student Illness Checker to help you determine if/when your student should report to school based on their symptoms, interactions with others, etc. If you have questions after using the checker, please contact your school nurse.
Parent(s) / Guardian(s) must contact the school every day that their child will not be physically in school or attending their assigned synchronous (live) or asynchronous (at home) learning schedule. Any unreported absences are considered unexcused.
Canvas Learning Management System
How do families access Canvas?
Canvas provides families with the option of creating a Canvas Observer account. The Canvas Observer account helps families stay up to date with their student's courses. Through the Canvas Observer account, families have an “observer” role in their student’s course(s). As an observer, families are linked to their student’s account so they can see assignment due dates, announcements, and set up notifications. Observers can view the course content but cannot participate in the course. Information such as student grades and missing assignments can be accessed by using Infinite Campus.
To set up a Canvas Observer account, please access the Canvas Training Course here. This course will explain how to link to your student’s account as well as help you navigate Canvas.
Where do I go for additional help for Canvas?
Please click here to learn how to access Canvas Help.
Where do I go if my child is experiencing technical difficulties with a school-issued Chromebook?
If you need technical support for your student's Chromebook, please complete a Helpdesk ticket.

Extra Curricular Opportunities
Baseball
The Jr. Trojans Baseball Club is forming a second-grade team for the 2021 baseball season. The club is looking for players living in the Wauwatosa West High School attendance boundary or those who plan on attending Wauwatosa West High School. Participants will learn the fundamentals of the game, embrace teamwork, hone their skills and, most importantly, have a ton of fun. If you’re interested or have questions, please email Ryan Amundson at ryanamundson01@gmail.com
Cub Scouts
Although Wauwatosa Montessori does not have a Cub Scout program, there are options nearby if you would have interest in your child joining. Eisenhower and McKinley both have packs which have students from WMS in them. Attached is information on Eisenhower's Pack. If interested in Cub Scouting, you can contact Adam Berghammer (Charlotte, Elleanor and Edward's Dad) at ammer1029@yahoo.com
