Titian

Titian's Life
Titian was born in Pieve di Cadore in the Alps, north of Venice, in 1477, he died August 27,1576 in Venice Italy. When Titian was nine years old, him and his brother Francesco went to Venice to work at a workshop owned by Sebastiano Zuccati. Soon after starting work, Titian started to look at works be Giovanni Bellini. Then Titian met another of Bellini's students, "Giorgione with whom he collaborated" on his first real painting (1507-1508). Giorgione and Titian's paintings are so alike that it is hard to tell the difference of who painted it sometimes.
La Schiavona
"The painting, known by the 17th century as 'La Schiavona' (the Dalmatian woman), must date from 1510-12. The initials T.V. on the parapet probably stand for Tiziano Vecellio. The raised portion of the parapet is a revision, and drapery originally painted there now shows through it." The painting is a portrait made from oil paints, on a three foot eleven inch by three foot four inch canvas. The woman in the painting is unknown.
