Hurricanes
A Natural Disaster
what is a hurricane?
Hurricanes are the most powerful storms on earth. They grow over the ocean as a tropical storm over the ocean. the winds in a tropical storm rank between 39 and 73 mph. ( miles per hour.) hurricanes and tropical storms are the only storms that get names.

How do hurricanes form?
What happens
hurricanes begin over warm water. the water heats in the air and supplies water to the hurricane. (water vapor.) the warm moist air rises. as it rises, the water vapor forms clouds.when the layer of warm air moves up, cooler air takes it's space. that movement causes winds. as it rises it starts moving faster. they soon rotate in a spiral. once the winds reach about 74 mph it is called a hurricane.
