From the Desk of Dr. Rodriguez
In a world where we are connected to each other in so many ways, social learning is quite possibly the most important area of a child's education. It is truly the foundation for all other learning that may come. Learning how to look someone in the eye, shake their hand appropriately and confidently, and engage in constructive, meaningful dialogue keeps our society civil and shows our children how to interact with others in our day-to-day lives. Our Classroom Greeters gain experience in this arena every time a family comes to visit our school. Classroom Greeters do just that -- they greet any visitors that come to their classroom by introducing themselves, their classroom, and giving our visitors a quick snapshot of what they are learning in class. While this job may seem simple, I can tell you that we see tremendous growth each year in students who are selected to be Classroom Greeters. Students who were once somewhat shy and inhibited are now outgoing, eager to interact with others, and are usually the first ones to involve themselves in another school initiative. This opportunity increases a student's level of responsibility, enhances public speaking skills, and builds confidence and self-esteem, which we know are crucial to a child's positive development. We are so proud of our Classroom Greeters and the job they do every day at school, and we know they leave an great impression on anyone who visits our wonderful institution of learning.
There is no school next Friday, so please be on the lookout for the next edition of Friday at 4:00 on November 5!
Sincerely,
Dr. Rodriguez

Let's Go, Panthers!
Miami isn't necessarily known for its cold weather and opportunities to play ice hockey -- we leave that up to those poor souls living in the northern states. HOWEVER . . . it appears that our local ice hockey team, the Florida Panthers, have started off the season on a hot streak and are currently 4-0! Coach Alfonso decided to honor our Panthers by having the students play the Miami version of ice hockey on our basketball courts. Students learned the intricacies of passing the ball with a hockey stick and chasing it down the court to make a goal. Defensive moves were seen in full force as players blocked shots and attempted to steal the ball/puck. Victory was acknowledged and disappointment was felt, but all in all, it was great fun and a reminder that team sports are still just as exciting and nerve-racking as ever. Thanks, Coach, for an absolutely AWESOME time on the "ice" hockey courts!
