What's Happening at Log
Today marks the completion of our first week back after returning to Hybrid! It is safe to say that we were all very happy to see the students in person once again! As a reminder, students with last names beginning with A-L are in person Monday and Tuesday, and those with last names beginning with M-Z are in person on Thursday and Friday. All students are virtual on Wednesday.
Another positive bit of news is that we have been given the green light to move ahead with Winter Sports. Girls' basketball has an abbreviated season running through next week, where they will play two games against Klinger. Boys' basketball will start their season mid-January. Please refer to the eAlert Mr. Golderer sent out on Monday, January 4th (link below) that outlines our Winter sports season.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.

PIAA Eligibility
Now that we are back operating in the Hybrid model, our athletics program is up and running again, albeit in a limited fashion. With that, the school runs weekly eligibility reports on all athletes. In addition to academic eligibility, students must meet attendance and behavioral guidelines for continued participation in PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) sports. PIAA, which is the governing body of school sports in the Commonwealth encourages the ideal of the ‘student athlete,’ which we wholeheartedly support. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Swartwood, Athletic Director, or Mr. Drago, Assistant Principal.

Covid-19 Reminders:
If you are travelling, please follow the Pennsylvania Department of Health recommendations for quarantining when you return home. Please contact the attendance office to notify the school and attend classes virtually.
Please continue to send in 6th grade physical forms & 7th grade dental exam forms.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the school nurse (Anne Curtin) at 215-441-6075 x14025. You may also contact her via email at curtan@centennialsd.org.
Thank you for your ongoing support, as we strive to keep the children of LCMS safe and healthy!
Attendance Policy and Procedures
Attendance letters are automatically generated by the Skyward student management system on a weekly basis, based on student attendance reports. As we move through the year, the number of attendance letters generated increases a good deal. There are currently four types of letters generated weekly:
- 3-days of Illegal Absences
- 4-days of Illegal Absences
- 6-days of Illegal Absences
- 10 days of Cumulative Absences
Illegal absences simply mean that there is no accompanying parent note or doctor's note to excuse the absence. All absences default to illegal in Skyward until a note is received by our attendance office.
The three-day letter is considered a "warning" letter. After the four-day threshold is met, our school social worker will contact families to set up a SAIP (Student Attendance Improvement Plan) Meeting, where the absences are discussed and a plan to improve attendance is created. Once the six-day threshold is reached, other measures can be taken, as a student is considered "habitually truant" under the law. These COULD include fines in district magisterial court, Children and Youth involvement, or attendance diversion programs.
The 10-day letter is a cumulative letter meaning it counts both legal and illegal absences are counted. Once a 10-day letter has been generated, a 'licensed practitioner of the healing arts' must provide a note. That can include a doctor, nurse, nurse practitioner, etc.
Absence notes must be turned in within three (3) days of your child's return to school. Absences will remain unexcused until notes or turned in or if the three day window is exceeded. Absence excuse notes can also be emailed to Log College at the following address: lcattendance@centennialsd.org
For family trips during the school year, a Family Trip Request Form must be submitted to the Principal at least three (3) days prior to your trip. All requests submitted less than three (3) days prior will be denied.

Inclement Weather Guidelines
As we proceed through the winter months, delays and cancellations due to weather conditions are inevitable. Please stay tuned to local news outlets, Centennial SD's social media accounts, and Log College's social media accounts for updates on delays and cancellations. Alerts will also be sent out via phone and text alert. In the event of a two or three hour delay, abbreviated schedules will be followed. Those schedules will be communicated out by individual schools.
Log College Middle School
Log College Middle School opened its doors in September 1967 as a Junior High School serving seventh and eighth grade students. The school is named after the original school in Warminster, “Log College” established in 1727 by William Tennent, one of the original trustees of Princeton University. The school’s mascot is the Colonial in honor of the first Log College.
Log College became a Middle School in 1991 educating sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. In 2000 the school was recognized by the US Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School. Log College currently serves approximately 600 sixth through eighth graders.
