A message from our Principal
This week is the perfect time to reflect on where we were just 365 days ago. If you'll recall, looking back, we are just one week away from the milestone of "leaving normal" and entering the temporary normal of COVID Life. I'm excited to see the progress that we're making in addressing the COVID response community-wide during the last year. I love seeing fewer cases and hospitalizations and our County's decision to gradually open back up. Even though we've had our hiccups here and there as a society - I'm really impressed with our collective effort to make our local world as good as it can be.
As the vaccines have become more available, we have had a very strong response from our schools' staffulty. We currently have more than 80% of our staff members who have been able to receive at least one vaccine. A large number of our faculty were able to get their second yesterday (thus the concern for lingering effects for the "day after" and anticipation of substitute shortages). This is a huge step forward for us as an institution to return to normal operations looking ahead.
Looking ahead to next year, we have made the decision to keep a "remote" option available for our students. The remote option is to participate asynchronously in our Edgenuity Online platform with a Woodland Park High School teacher supporting the student through proctoring of tests, grading and occasional tutoring. We anticipate that most students (550-600) of our students will return to in-person learning for the '21-'22 school year.
We wrap up the student selection of next year's courses today. Full registration of students will take place shortly after the spring-break. Look forward to communication that will require investment from parents to complete the official process. We need families to follow-through so that we can "hold those courses" for our returning students.
If you have questions, please reach out. Otherwise, we'll see you all next week in this space.
