Parent Information Night
Big shout out to the parents who came to Parent Information Night. I know that not everyone was able to attend - if you have any questions about Sunflower or our classroom don't hesitate to ask. Just a brief over view of what we talked about:Our website has tons of information - please, please, please check it out.
- Weekly reading and spelling information listed,
- You can print copies of math Homelinks if your kiddo forgets to bring it home.
- Copies of extra credit on my teacher page.
- Videos of all the programs Sunflower has.
- AR information and how to login to AR HomeConnect
- Infinite Campus checking grades and how to change your notifications and information.
- Book in the bag-reading log
The bottom of my newsletters will always have general class information.
Login/Passwords- This past week your student brought home a password and login sheet listing the websites we use in the classroom and their login information. Anytime a student goes to any of these sites - note it in their planner for extra points.
MAP Testing- a newsletter went out this past week about MAP testing informing parents what it is and how we use it at Sunflower. This test gives us valuable information about your child's specific academic needs. We use it to place them into an appropriate MTSS group. It is important that your child do their best and not "click through" just to be done. We test first thing in the morning on the next two Wednesdays - please make sure your student arrives on time and has had a healthy breakfast either at home or school.
Reading Weekly Story - due to Labor Day Weekend, MAP testing, and Grandparent's Day this week coming up - we will teach the same story for the next two weeks - we will take the weekly and spelling test Thursday, September 14th.
AR Goals- students wrote their AR point goals in their planner last week - please note that students not only have to make their point goal but also maintain an 80% comprehension. They have to have both met in order to have met their goal.

General Class Information
Parent Communication
I feel communication between us is very important. I will send out emails, notices through Bloomz (more info below) and student work through seesaw. The two main apps I would like you to download if possible are Bloomz and seesaw. Bloomz will allow messaging for reminders, volunteer sign-ups (this is where our holiday party sign-ups are), class wishlist signups, student behavior monitoring, and eventually parent teacher conference scheduling.
The other app is seesaw. This is a student portfolio app. This is not something that is required, but you will have access to see your student's work and some of the things they do,
AR (Accelerated Reader)
AR - Students read at home -suggested 20 minutes a night. They are given a point goal for the quarter. Picture books are worth .5, or half a point. Chapter books can range in point value depending on their content. In order for students to make their goal, they need to have reached their point goal along with keeping an overall 80% comprehension. Please encourage your child to take the AR quizzes. Students can only take quizzes at school. Parents can login to homeconnect (link below in the techie tools) with their student's login information and check their progress. You can also set it up to receive an email with your student's scores when they take a quiz.
Reading Logs
Students have a red reading log folder they should keep, along with a book, in their book-in-a-bag. One side of each page(5 questions) is for one week. They will receive 10 points for each question on the page. They are required to have at least 3 questions answered, and only one question per night. Students have Monday-Sunday to fill out those 3 questions. Students turn in the reading log on Monday morning. They can keep the same book if they would like to read it a second time, or if they are not finished with it. Once they are done, they should take an AR test on the book and checkout another book.
Planner
Students will bring home their planner every night. They should have it filled out with they day's information, and parents should sign it nightly. Also, any extra work students do such as, get online on one of our classroom sites, study flashcards, study spelling words, or study math facts - write that in the planner and students will earn extra dojo points. Also, you can write transportation notes or questions in the planner.
School Store
School store is normally the first Friday of the month. Students may bring money to purchase panther related items at lunch.
