RCES Family Engagement Night
Commit to Be Fit was thrilled to host multiple activity stations during the RCES Family Engagement Night on February 28th. Students and families had an opportunity to create tasty Cat and the Hat strawberry and banana kabobs with Chef Volmrich, compete against each other in a fun BlazePod activity, and have their photos taken in front of the Dr. Seuss backdrop. We would like to thank Ms. Bethany Bostic and Ms. Katherine Todd for coordinating this wonderful school-wide event and all the volunteers and staff who contributed to its tremendous success.
RCHS Strength, Fitness, and Personal Health Class Field Trip
On Feb. 29th, the RCHS Strength, Fitness, and Personal Health class had an opportunity to visit State Climb to experience indoor rock climbing! The students, along with the class instructor, Jermey Gates, enjoyed trying various courses that were offered in the expansive climbing complex. Additionally, each had an opportunity to defy gravity while trying aerial silks. The students greatly enjoyed the experience! Thank you to the State Climb crew for the incredible introduction to rock climbing and aerial silks.
Mindfulness Push-ins
Ms. Kayla has been busy visiting RCES classrooms to teach students helpful mindfulness activities. During one activity (pictured above), the students sit quietly and pay attention to the calming tone of a sound chime. Once they can no longer hear it, they raise their hands while keeping their eyes closed. Mindfulness activities help students to focus on their surroundings and teaches easy calming techniques for students to use throughout the day.
Thank you, Amy
C2BF would like to share a special shout-out to Amy Newman, who has led our afterschool walking group for the past two school years. Recently, Amy accepted a new position which is much closer to her home. While she will no longer be heading up walking group, she will always be a part of the C2BF family. Thank you, Amy (shown above in the middle), for always showing up with a smile on your face and a genuine desire to keep us healthy through movement. We are grateful for all that you have done for this group and wish you the best of luck in your next adventure.

Give Indoor Rock Climbing a Try
Today's tip is inspired by the Strength, Fitness, and Personal Health field trip to State Climb, in Culpeper.
There are numerous benefits associated with indoor rock climbing, or bouldering. First of all, it is a full body workout that builds strength in the muscles of the upper body, lower body, and core. If you have ever tried it, you can definitely attest to this! Additionally, it improves focus and promotes problem solving while you are strategically selecting your route. Also, it improves flexibility with time and can improve balance. Finally, it is a fun social activity and can enhance trust and communications skills between the climber and the belayer. Since it is done indoors, this fun physical activity can be preformed year round!

National Nutrition Month
It’s March and National Nutrition Month! National Nutrition Month is organized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, a professional organization of registered dietitians and nutritionists who strive to raise awareness about the importance of making informed food choices and developing healthy eating habits. Making informed food choices and healthy eating habits are crucial for overall well-being. Here are some tips to help you make informed food choices and cultivate healthy eating habits:
-Know your nutritional needs based on factors like age, gender, activity level, and health conditions. Consult with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian for personalized advice.
-Prioritize whole, unprocessed foods. These include fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats. Whole foods provide essential nutrients without added sugars, salt, or unhealthy fats.
- Reduce your intake of processed foods, which often contain high levels of salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats. Opt for fresh, whole alternatives whenever possible.
- Plan meals that include a variety of food groups. Aim to balance carbohydrates, proteins, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. Incorporate a rainbow of fruits and vegetables for diverse nutrients.
- Prepare meals at home whenever possible. Cooking allows you to control the ingredients and cooking methods, ensuring healthier choices.
- Be open to trying new foods and recipes. Embrace variety in your diet to ensure a broad spectrum of nutrients.
- Consult with a registered dietitian or nutritionist for personalized advice if needed. They can help you create a customized meal plan based on your needs and goals.
C2BF invites you to join us as we celebrate National Nutrition Month! Remember that developing healthful eating habits is a gradual process. Small, sustainable changes over time can significantly improve your overall health and well-being.
