Congressman Max Miller Visits BMS and STEAM!
Brunswick City School District Celebrates Innovative STEAM Curriculum and Community
Support at Brunswick Middle SchoolBrunswick, OH—Brunswick Middle School has introduced a cutting-edge STEAM (Science,Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) curriculum. This course is designed to provide a rigorous educational experience, relevant experiences, and meaningful relationships that foster a love of learning among students. With this initiative, Brunswick seeks to ensure every student hasthe opportunity to explore and innovate.
This curriculum was designed by science teacher Megan Gubanich and art teacher Kelly
Harrison. It engages students in real-world, collaborative learning experiences that utilize a
cross-curricular design process. Students work on projects like building and launching catapults,
creating Ligatures, participating in the Cranky Contraptveyor Cinema and Cla WRT Challenge,
designing stop motion animations, exploring Paint Pendulum, and experimenting with 3D Printing.
These activities immerse students in the joy of learning and help develop valuable life skills such
as effective communication, critical thinking, empathy, adaptability, and responsible living.
The Brunswick City School District welcomed Congressman Max Miller on Friday, March 15th. He
visited Brunswick Middle School to observe our district's efforts toward offering cutting-edge
project-based learning experiences to our middle school students. By observing our STEAM
curriculum firsthand, Congressman Miller gained insights into how our innovative approach to
education is preparing students to navigate and succeed in an increasingly complex and dynamic
world. This visit underscores the significance of forward-thinking educational practices in
fostering the development and success of young learners.
The STEAM curriculum owes its existence to the support of Jim and Nancy Surace, who have
long supported Brunswick City Schools and the community. Their generous financial
contributions have played a critical role in launching and sustaining the STEAM program. The
Suraces truly understand the importance of providing authentic learning experiences, and their
commitment to the district's vision is a shining example of how community engagement can
enhance educational opportunities.
"The STEAM curriculum at Brunswick Middle School aligns with our mission by making learning
exciting and relevant for students and strengthening our community bonds. The financial
contributions of Jim and Nancy Surace have been pivotal in bringing this curriculum to life,
demonstrating the power of collaboration in advancing educational innovation. I am grateful to
Congressman Miller for visiting Brunswick Middle School and giving us the opportunity to
showcase the exciting things happening in BCSD," said Superintendent Jason Niedermeyer.

The choice of this date is symbolic: the 21st day of the 3rd month represents the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome, which is the genetic anomaly causing Down syndrome. Participating in the nationwide “Lots of Socks” campaign is a fun and powerful way to show support and raise awareness for the Down syndrome community. Capture your spirit and creativity by sharing a photo of your wackiest socks. Let's fill our social media feeds with color and joy. Don't forget to tag BCSD!
