Quietly Behind the Scenes
7th Grade Student Receives Award
But, that is not what this article is about. Becca also loves animals, and not necessarily just the cute furry ones. That is where this article truly begins.
Becca's father is employed by the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial. Ever since she has been in kindergarten, Becca has tagged along with her father on weekends. Naturally, Becca has been drawn to the animals. She has cared for these animals on a volunteer basis, feeding them, cleaning pens, making sure they have water, and just giving them tender loving care.
On Thursday, April 18, the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial honored Becca for achieving over 1000 hours of volunteer time!
Southridge Middle School would like to congratulate Becca on this achievement. It is nice to recognize the fact that our students are involved in the community.

Thank You
Also, Thank You to all of the SMS staff and students who helped make the Academic Bowl run so smoothly. Without those teachers who volunteered to give up their Saturday to be workers and judges for the day, none of this would have been possible. And, lastly, Thank You to those students who helped with concessions, delivered messages, carried boxes of results to the auditorium, etc.
End of the Year Luau
Dance Information
We will be having a dinner starting at 6:00 p.m. before the dance begins. Students will be able to buy tickets for both the dance and the dinner before the luau during the school day. The student council will be purchasing freshly made pizza for the dinner. The student council needs your help, though, to make this dinner a success for our students. We are asking that every student, who is able to, that is attending the dance to bring in an item to help ensure we have enough food, cutlery, drinks, and plates and cups for students to be able to fully enjoy their dinner before the dance.
Below is a list of what we are asking students to bring based on their grade. Again this is not mandatory to participate in the dance, but any help that you can provide will be greatly appreciated by all of the students. If you are able to bring an item to help out with the luau, Mr. Baseden would greatly appreciate it if you would call him at (812) 683-3372, extension 3206. Or, you may email him at basedenk@swdubois.k12.in.us to let him know what item you are bringing. If you would prefer to bring something that is not listed for the mentioned groups below, feel free to bring whatever item you can, just contact Mr. Baseden so that he can put you down for that item.
ITEMS REQUESTED:
6th Grade: All Students -- Side dish/salad
7th Grade:
Last Name: A-F -- 1 bag of chips/pretzels/etc.
Last Name: G-M -- Side dish
Last Name: N-Z -- 1 two liter of soda/case of water
8th Grade:
Girls -- 1 dessert
Boys Last Name: A- F -- 1 package of cups (25-50 count)
Boys Last Name: G-P -- 2 boxes of plastic forks/spoons/ knives
Boys Last Name: Q-Z -- 1 package of heavy duty plates
** Any nonperishable items can be brought in before the dance. All perishable items should be brought into school the day of the dance and taken to Mr. Baseden's room.
Dance Party Activities
The cost of the dance will still be $4.00 to get into the dance. If your student would like to have the dinner, that will be an additional $2.00. The cost for going on the inflatables will be $4.00. Students can participate in as many of the activities as they want. Students will also be able to purchase shaved ice treats from Kona Ice. The cost of the shaved ice will depend on the size of the shaved ice the student buys.
We also are in need of several chaperones for the dance. If you would like to help with this fun activity for our students, please fill out a background check on the corporation website. You can find the form under the corporation tab on the school's website. Under the corporation tab, you will see a link to the public forms. Click the link or type the URL in your preferred browser; you will be taken to a webpage with the background check available for you to complete online. To complete the form you have to download the form and open it in a new tab. The form can also be found at the following URL:
http://www.swdubois.k12.in.us/docs/district/background_information_request_-_rev_6.2016.pdf
If you have already filled out a background check for this school year, you do not need to fill out another one. All you have to do is email Mr. Baseden. He would greatly appreciate your help in making this event run smoothly for our students.
The Southridge Middle School Student Council would greatly appreciate any and all of the help you can provide for this event.
