Hurricane Katrina~
One of the five deadliest hurricanes!
Hurricane Katrina happened in August 23, 2005 - August 31, 2005. It is the costliest natural disaster, as well as one of the five deadliest hurricanes, in the history of the United States. The areas that were affected are; Eastern North America, Ontario, Georgia, and more. The day before Katrina hit, Ray Nigan issued an evacuation order.
Katrina nearly killed 2,000 people. The hurricane affected 90,000 square miles of the Untied States. It had a category 3 rating on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane scale.
Hurricane Katrina caused hundreds of deaths. About 80% of the low-lying city was under water. 23,800 people had to be rescued after four levee breaks caused them to fled to their rooftops. Some 500,000 families were misplaced. Billions of dollars were needed to restore just the New Orleans. It was complete chaos. After the hurricane, the Gulf Coast, U.S. Army Lt. Gen. Russel L. Honoré, 57, has taken charge of the military's response to the tragedy. After most of the residents were evacuated and the army was brought in, work began to rebuild the infrastructure. The un-watering took a matter of weeks, rather than months. Even though most of the repairs are done, families still suffer the tragedy. Even today, some of the residents are still searching for a new start. Can you imagine losing your home, most of your belongings? Do think you'd be able to recover the loss of a family member, a friend, or a pet? These are just some of the things that the Hurricane Katrina sufferers have to deal with.
