Legislative News - ASW
During the last legislative session, the Analysis of Student Work (ASW) process was eliminated. This includes districts that were participating in the local plan. At this time, there are no plans to replace it and teachers whose growth was previously determined by ASW will no longer have a growth measure.
New AMPS and ALPS criteria set for CCS; starts with rising 6th grade class!
- Placement criteria of 80% or higher on EOG OR AIG identification OR EOG % 75-80 in addition to 90+ grade and teacher recommendation and 85%+ on standardized aptitude test. Other grade levels are similar to this pending AMPS or ALPS, except for Math 1 requirements. Earth/Environmental science and World Languages also have specific district wide criteria.
- Significant change in that there is a district expectation that “once a student is placed in an advanced course, every effort will be made to ensure the child is successful in that setting. Once students have placed into an Advanced Course in middle school, students remain in the course.”

Staffing Updates
August 16-18 - Please consider these PD opportunities!
Also, please consider taking advantage of the CCS PD opportunities. Some of them look really engaging!
Community Outreach
We would like for you to already be aware of some community/family outreach and engagement plans we have for the week of August 7-10th.
As many of you know, child nutrition sends food to specific spots in the summer to provide students with lunch. We will be asking for any volunteers that want to go out on a bus together with Irvin staff volunteers on Monday and Thursday, August 7 and August 10th, at lunchtime to take some school supplies to students in the Greens (apartment complex that is in our neighborhood feeder). If you would like to "load the bus" and visit with some of our students, please plan on meeting at CMS by 11:20 on Monday, August 7th. We will do a 2nd trip to the Greens on Thursday, August 10th at the same time in hopes we might see some more of our students after our first visit. The bus will leave CMS at 11:30am so we can meet the child nutrition bus as they arrive. We should be back to the school by 1pm for your planning purposes.
If you know of any community agencies or churches that would be willing to help us collect school supplies, please let me know directly. We have a few leads, and would love more help, too.
This same week on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 5-6pm (ish), we will ask for small teams of staff members to go "door to door" in some of our heavily concentrated areas of the community we serve to introduce yourselves, tell folks how excited we are to start the school year, and give out some information about this school year to our families. It's an opportunity to get out and about in our community, do some PR work on our families' turf, and share some important information. Obviously, there are more logistical plans to this endeavor that must be planned in advance, such as teams of staff, and locations. We will not just tell you to go "willy-nilly" out in our neighborhoods. We will have some specific plans, and it is essential that we travel in small groups. For those of you who have been with us, this is kind of like the "meet and greet" but going door to door instead.
Both of these opportunities are totally optional!!!!!!!!! For any of these opportunities, I ask that you wear CMS attire so that you can be identified with our school. We will soon put out a google doc for sign up purposes so we can plan out some specific logistics.
So - this is mainly FYI. Look for the google doc. Get excited about the opportunity to see some of the faces of our students in August. Check your calendars and see if you can give perhaps one hour of your time that week to go see some kids and families and get them excited about this school year! And wait for more info coming soon...
