Riverbend Parent Newsletter
April 5, 2024
From the Principal
Riverbend Families,
The end of the school year is quickly approaching! It's hard to believe we have just a little over a month to go. Our focus going down the stretch is helping our students finish strong. So many of our students have had great success this year, and we want to make sure they end on a high note. Our 3rd trimester pillar centers around "Resiliency". We understand that the school year can seem like a long and tedious process, but we want our students to know it's important to finish the job and overcome any obstacles standing in their way. We hope that you will share that same message with them at home as we work together to support all of our Riverbend students.
MAP Testing
April 8th -12th will be our first session of MAP testing for Riverbend students. 8th grade students who took a "B" course in math. science, or ELA during 2nd trimester will be testing during this week. 7th grade students who had a "B" course in math or ELA will be testing this week as well. Breakfast will be free for students during the week of testing. Our teachers have done an amazing job preparing students for success. Please encourage your student to give their best effort on these important assessments. Student attendance is always important, but even more so this week. Please help us in making sure your student arrives to school on time and please try to avoid scheduling any appointments during school hours. Students who miss a testing session will complete a make-up session when they return. Our 2nd session of testing will take place during the week of May 13th -17th for students with "B" courses in those same subjects during 3rd trimester.
Summer School Programs
Enrollment is underway for Summer Discovery. Current 7th grade Riverbend students are eligible to sign up. Registration forms were sent home with 7th grade students on 4/5. Please return those forms to the Riverbend office if you would like to enroll your student.
We will also be reaching out to the families of students who will be required to attend Course Recovery work during June. Any student with 3 or more failing grades in a core class will be required to attend and complete all work in order to be promoted.
Please see a list of important upcoming dates below:
4/8-4/12: Parent Conference Week (Teachers have been reaching out to schedule. If you'd like to schedule a conference at any time, please contact your student's teacher.)
4/17: 8th Grade Visit To PHS (Students will be getting a guided tour of PHS and will eat lunch there.)
4/26: Life Skills Day (Students will be signing up to attend sessions with local businesses and organizations for a fun afternoon of activities.)

April 8th Eclipse Viewing Event
Dear MVR-III Families,
We are thrilled to announce that Meramec Valley R-III School District will be hosting an Eclipse Extravaganza on April 8th, providing a unique opportunity for our students to experience and learn about the solar eclipse in a safe and engaging environment.
During the Eclipse Extravaganza, each school within our district will host a watch party where students will have the chance to view the solar eclipse through proper safety glasses and measures. Additionally, there will be various activities including dress-up contests, photo booths, and more to enhance the educational experience and create lasting memories for our students.
We understand that some parents may have concerns about their child viewing the solar eclipse, which is why we are offering an Opt-Out Form for those who prefer their child not to participate in the event. Please complete the Opt-Out Form and return it to your child's school by April 7th. Students not viewing the solar eclipse will be given an alternative activity in doors during the school-wide viewing period.
School principals and teachers will communicate specific details regarding the Eclipse Extravaganza at each school, including schedules, safety protocols, and additional activities planned for the day.
We are excited to provide this unique learning opportunity for our students and believe that the Eclipse Extravaganza will be a fun and educational experience for all involved.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact your child's school administration.
