A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL BAME
Dear LPE Families,
Happy last week of August!
I hope many of you were able to view the video message I sent on Friday, August 21st. We truly appreciate your support and kindness during our first Orientation week. As we settle into our second week of Orientation, please remember that we are focusing on building relationships and troubleshooting technology issues during the first two weeks of school.
Reminders:
- Teachers will send out a weekly newsletter prior to the start of the week, outlining curriculum and general announcements.
- Penguin Press Newsletters are sent every other Monday, unless breaking news needs to be shared.
We invite you to join us for our Instructional Supply Pick-up events this week. Each day we are planning to pass out supplies to specific grade levels. Our teachers and instructional assistants will be on hand to wave and greet our students. If possible, we encourage our students to ride along with their parents for these carpool pick-up events. We are so excited to see our students, even if for only a few minutes!
SPECIAL FAVOR: If you can put your child's name on a piece of paper and place that paper on the front window, we would appreciate it!
PTA will be on hand to pass out purchased supply kits. Ms. Benner, LPE Art teacher, will be available to pass out purchased Art to Remember products. If you are unable to attend your child's assigned day/time, please plan to schedule an appointment with our front office team. You may reach them at 919.290.2333. Thank you!
We encourage families to join the LPE PTA. For more information on how to join and become more involved in our school programming, please visit: https://www.laurelparkespta.com/
Wishing you all a wonderful week,
Mrs. Raleigh G. Bame

Photo 1: One of our very own families volunteered to build our very own Little Free Library. A special thank you to the Richardson family on track 1 for tackling this project with such tenacity! We love the finished product and cannot wait to start swapping books soon. More to come in the weeks ahead!
Photo 2: One of our track 4 families donated an amazing snack bar for our staff during workdays in early August. Although they wished to remain anonymous, we want to thank them for their generosity and kindness.
We have such a giving community!
Positivity Project Resource for Families
P2 for Families is an easy and effective way for families to discuss the importance of character strengths and positive relationships. It is differentiated for grades Pre-K – 2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Each character strength follows a 1-1-3 model: 1 quote, 1 video, and 3 questions to drive conversations around character at home.
Please choose your child’s grade level found at the link below:
We are pleased to announce Lucky's Library Curbside Service! LPES Media Center will have takeout book service this year with curbside pick up.

Wake County Public Schools has decided to reopen the Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) nomination window again from last spring 2020. Although Laurel Park Elementary held their nomination window open during the spring remote period, some schools closed their nomination window due to COVID. To be equitable to all WCPSS schools, the SSA nomination window will be reopening August 3rd - August 28th for any 1st - 5th grade student only.
Single Subject Acceleration is an opportunity for students that are consistently performing above grade level to be considered to move up one grade level for only one subject in either Math or English Language Arts. This is an important decision that should be considered greatly. This is not a decision for all students or for students that need challenged or enrichment. This is for students that have demonstrated above grade level ability consistently across all same subject objectives. I highly recommend if you are considering SSA, that you speak with your student's classroom teacher from last year to get their advice. If your student's teacher is no longer with LPES, please contact me and I will contact that teacher to get their advice on this decision. If you made this decision last spring to have your student SSA tested, I already have their nomination on file and will test them accordingly. If you would like to change your decision or want to touch base with me to verify that I did receive your nomination, you can email me at astone@wcpss.net.
For families that are interested in SSA and missed the spring SSA nomination window, please read over the attached information from Wake County Public Schools regarding SSA testing and if interested please complete the SSA Nomination form and email it to me at astone@wcpss.net. Our SSA nomination and testing timeline will be as follows:
Accepting SSA Nomination forms August 3rd - 28th
SSA Testing August 31st - September 25th (3rd - 6th week of school)
Qualified students will placed into their new SSA class September 28th (7th week of school)
Students that meet SSA test qualifying scores, will be placed into their new SSA class the 7th week of school. Which means they will miss the first 6 weeks of instruction. We will have a SSA meeting to discuss how to best help each student with the transition to their new class, how to handle the missed six weeks of instruction and what the first quarter report card grades may look like. That date will be announced through email to the guardians of qualifying students.
If you should have any questions, please email me at astone@wcpss.net.
Thank you!
