Interested in completing the Advanced Certificate in Academic Advising (ACAA)?
1. Complete the following courses:
- Intentional Communication for Advisors
- Two of the Cross-College Advising courses
- Two of the Topics in Advising Theory & Practice courses
- Leadership in Academic Advising: This should be the last course you complete before beginning your capstone project.
2. Submit your capstone proposal using this link. The proposal should include the name of your project, how you intend to share the project with the advising community, a brief description of the project, and the estimated project completion date.
3. Wait for your proposal to be approved by the Certificate Committee. The committee meets once a month and will review newly submitted capstone proposals at the next meeting. We will email you once your proposal has been reviewed and approved.
4. Complete your capstone project and share it with the UGA advising community.
5. Submit your completed self-tracker to the Certificate Committee at advisingcerts@uga.edu.
6. You will then receive your certificate at the next Fall Advisor Workshop.
Please note:
- The Topics in Advising Theory & Practice courses are not labeled as such in PEP. They will all be labeled as ACAA courses with different course titles.
- Any ACAA course that is not one of the required courses or one of the Cross-College Advising courses is considered an Advising Theory & Practice course.
- You can register for these courses on the PEP website at https://pep.uga.edu/.
- Use the ACAA self-tracker to keep track of your progress. You can find the self-tracker here.
If you have any questions, you can contact the committee at advisingcerts@uga.edu.

Study Away Opportunity: National Student Exchange
National Student Exchange (NSE) provides accessible collegiate study away to undergraduate students at member colleges and universities in the United States, Canada, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. NSE gives students access to specific programs and courses that may not be available at UGA. It is a great opportunity especially for students who are considering transferring. More often than not, students return to their home campuses after studying away through NSE with a renewed feeling that UGA is the place for them. If you are advising a student whose registration did not go as planned, NSE can be an alternative to get credit for major classes and stay on track for graduation.
