This message is for all families, staff, and community partners who may have a preschool-aged child or know a family with preschool-aged children. Did you know that current four-year-olds may be eligible to participate in a free online early learning program to prepare for kindergarten?
LCSC and Mental Health America of Boone County have partnered with Waterford UPSTART to bring this program to our community. Waterford UPSTART is an in-home, technology-delivered kindergarten readiness program that gives preschool-aged children individualized reading, math and science instruction in 15-30 minutes a day, five days a week. Participants will receive a Chromebook laptop, which they keep upon successful completion, as well as WiFi to use for the duration of the program. and WiFi for the duration of the program.
Eligible children must be born between August 2, 2013 and August 1, 2014 and entering kindergarten in fall 2019. Eligibility is based on income, and eligible students cannot be currently utilizing a pre-kindergarten voucher.
Please join us on Thursday, December 6 from 6-7 p.m. at Hattie B. Stokes Elementary to learn more about this program, confirm eligibility, and complete the pre-registration process. Dinner will be provided by Mental Health America of Boone County. You may also pre-register by calling 1-888-982-9898 or visiting www.waterfordupstart.org.
Following pre-registration, participating families will need to attend a parent training and student intake session on Wednesday, December 12 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Hattie B. Stokes Elementary. Dinner will be provided by Waterford UPSTART.

Flu Season!
Flu season is here. Signs and symptoms of the flu include: headache, fever, fatigue, sore throat, body aches and cough. If your child has a fever of 100 they cannot be at school. A child must be fever free for 24 hours without treatment for the fever before returning to school. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. Merritt, the school nurse, at 482-5950 ext. 13830.
Important Reminders!
- Call attendance line to report absences before 9:00 a.m.
- 2 hour delays for school also includes bus pickup times; meaning, if the bus normally picks up at 8:30 they would pick up at 10:30 on a 2 hour delay. The arrival bell rings at 10:45 and tardy bell rings at 11:00.
- If you've moved, please remember to call the office and let us know your new address and send proof of residency for us to copy.
- If you're having to live with someone, even a family member, your child could qualify for extra support here at school with lunch and textbook fees through McKinney Vento Act. Please contact our school office if you have questions 482-5950.
