MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
“Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken winged bird that cannot fly.”
—Langston Hughes
While February is the shortest month, it is also a very eventful month. In this month we are encouraged to learn more about Black History, as we should everyday, celebrate President Lincoln who made a huge impact on the USA, demonstrate our LOVE for one another on Valentine's Day and everyday, celebrate Chinese New Year, and this particular year we were able to experience the awesome start to the 2022 Winter Olympics. Go Team USA!
I encourage you to continue to work hard, stay focus, and pursue what you LOVE! Be the change you want to see in others.
Have a great weekend!

Kindergarten And First Grade Collaborate For Chinese New Year!
Miss McGroarty and Mrs. Lowry/Mrs. Losasso's first grade classes joined forces with Mrs. Lukas and Mrs. Helm's kindergarten class to explore the Chinese New Year tradition. The students celebrated "The Year of the Tiger" with a STEM station rotation as the classes traveled to different classrooms to complete Chinese New Year themed center activities. The students engaged in fun activities such as Chinese Symbol Play Doh mats, Chopstick relays, Pagoda building, Chinese New Year Bingo, and created a Dragon Parade mural with their handprints!
Fun with Money!
Mrs. Dvorsky's MD class has been working with money. Everyday the students recite a money chant. "A penny is worth one cent. A nickel is worth five. A dime is worth ten cents; a quarter = twenty-five!" They also like the hand signals that accompany their chant (one finger = one cent, five fingers = five cents, two hands = ten cents, five hands = twenty-five cents)!
Using games to learn about money is also a class favorite, especially "Race to a Dollar". The students place at least 20 pennies, 10 nickels and 20 dimes into a pile. This is the bank. Players then take turns rolling a die and collecting the number of pennies shown on the die from the bank. Whenever a student has at least 5 pennies they can say, “Exchange!” and trade them for a nickel. When a player has two nickels, they can say, “Exchange!” and trade them for a dime. The game ends when a player has 10 dimes and can exchange them for a dollar.
