ENVS Class Project Highlights
One student created a YouTube video in order to discuss the connection between human health, climate change, and mosquito.
Another student, Elizabeth Bles, painted a stunning scene of a red panda (see below) to demonstrate the importance of this endangered species has on the world.
Finally, Ivan Torres created a poignant painting (see below the red panda) to demonstrate how climate change is leading to substantial change for future generations.
In another core ENVS class, ENVS 303, students are also challenged to create a project. However, with this course, students create a project in order to help change the public's attitude toward an environmental issue.
Eleanor Buettner created a petition to garner attention to have NIU's interim president, Lisa Freeman, to sign NIU onto the We Are Still In. This is a movement where institutions and organizations declare that they will still abide by the Paris Climate Agreement, even if the US pulls out of it in 2019.
Institute for the Study of Environment, Sustainability, and Energy (ESE)
We exist to foster research, education, and community engagement about the environment and sustainability.
We offer two undergraduate degrees in environmental studies: a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree. These interdisciplinary programs feature classes and research led by NIU faculty from several different colleges. To further customize your course of study, you can draw from your personal, intellectual and professional interests to choose from the following six areas of emphasis:
Biodiversity and Environmental Restoration
Energy Studies
Environmental Policy
Nature in Society
Water Sciences
