Treatments
Exposure treatment- Exposes the patient to their fears gradually, eventually helping them overcome their fear. (Ex. a person who is afraid of heights is told to climb a ladder a few rungs each visit, until they are able to climb all the way up)
Behavior therapy- Patients are introduced to their fears in non-dangerous situations. (Ex. A person who is afraid of snakes is put in a situation with non-dangerous snakes.
Counter conditioning- The patient is put in the situation they feel frightened in and given something they feel safe with or associate good feelings with so they instead focus on the happy feelings and get over their fears. (Ex. a person who is afraid of dogs, but loves ice cream, will repeatedly be put in a room with a calm dog and some ice cream until they feel comfortable around the dog)
