Please see the attached letter below from Assistant Superintendent Todd Washburn for more information. The Rancho Elementary STAAR testing dates are listed below as well.
Giving Your Child the Advantage of Sleep
We all know that lack of sleep impacts our thinking and performance, alertness, and mood. Even as adults, we see the difference a good night's sleep makes in our workday. You probably also know that sleep is important for your child's development. Did you know that having enough rest impacts your child's happiness, brain development, mood, learning and memory, resiliency, vocabulary development, brain performance, and ability to self-regulate? Children who don't get enough sleep can have symptoms that mimic ADHD. Poor sleep has also been connected to reduced immunity, anxiety, depression, obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
It's important to keep in mind that children need several hours more of sleep each night than adults. While adults can function off of single-digit hours of sleep, children need additional hours in order to do the hard work of forming neural pathways and growing bodies. Depending on your child's age, bedtimes for most elementary students should be 7:00-8:30 p.m. (dependent on wake-up times). This means that bedtime routines should start earlier in the evening. Good sleep routines are habits that must be developed through practice. They don't happen spontaneously for most children. As parents, we get to help our children develop healthy sleep patterns.
In today's fast-paced, activity-driven society, getting home early enough to get children in bed can sometimes be a challenge. Sleep Foundation has research and tips to support setting a healthy bedtime schedule and evening routine that support your child's mental and physical health.

Cereal Box Domino Rally!
558 cereal boxes were collected and donated to Operation Liberty Hill for the food bank. Thanks to everyone who chipped in to support this cause for our local community! With the crazy wind outside, we have to improvise in the hallways, but it was great fun for all! Be sure to click on both links for videos from the rally!
