Harding Newsletter
December 2020
Dear Harding Families,
I am thankful for our PTO and the efforts they make to provide quality opportunities and experiences for all students.
Amidst all of the uncertainty in our nation, I hope that you find time to relax and reflect on the things that you and your family have to be thankful for. Thank you for your continued help, support and understanding during this crazy school year. There is no place I would rather be. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Stay safe,
Mrs. Brunsvold

Note from the Nurse!
Influenza season is upon us! With that in mind, I wanted to share some information about the signs and symptoms of influenza to be watching for, and give recommendations for when to keep your child home from school. The list of signs/symptoms are much like those of the coronavirus.
Symptoms of influenza (the flu) can include: fever, sore throat, headache, cough, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, chills, fatigue and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children than adults). Some people with the flu will not have fever.
In order to prevent the spread of germs please keep your sick child home.
The CDC suggests that you consult your doctor as needed if your child develops flu-like symptoms including fever and/or cough. Also, keep in mind that it is not too late for a flu shot!!
Please communicate with the school if your child has been diagnosed by a doctor with positive influenza/coronavirus so that we can take extra precautions to prevent the spread
The following link compares the difference between allergies/coronavirus/influenza and the common cold.
Have a great holiday and stay safe!!

Remote/Online Learning Because of Severe Weather
If the event is a surprise winter storm or weather event, it may not be possible to send home all the necessary materials for students to have a remote/online learning day. Students will do the best they can with the materials and or technology available to them.
In the event of a school cancellation due to severe weather, families will receive an automated phone call, text message and email from the District. Messages will also be posted on the District website, social media, and appear on local media outlets. Remote/online learning will be announced at the same time as the in-person school cancellation announcement.
Students will receive a remote/online learning day activity matrix. This could be sent home from the teacher on paper, emailed or electronically available. Students complete a portion of the activities as directed, record them on the activity matrix, and send back to the school in the same way the parent received it. The goal is to provide meaningful activities that reinforce academic and social/emotional skills.
Teachers, administrators and other licensed staff will be available by email, phone or through electronic means (such as SeeSaw, Google Hangouts, Zoom, etc.) from 10:00am to 12:00pm and from 1:00pm to 3:00pm during a remote/online learning day. Staff may work from home or choose to be at their school building during these days. School buildings will be closed to students on a remote/online learning day.
Important Technology Reminders
As a parent, periodically check the history of what internet sites your child has been on. At school we have noticed that students are utilizing the camera/video on the devices. Please check the pictures. If you notice that your child is using their devices when they shouldn't be, please have a conversation with them about it. (Ex. on the school bus)
The students' devices are excellent education tools and resources, but its important to remind children of the use and purpose. Thank you for helping us monitor their technology safety.
Students who use the district's technology inappropriately may have restrictions or consequences that they may be responsible for.
If you ever have any questions please contact the office at 641-421-4406.
Thank you Harding PTO!!
