50 Years on Ash St.
Day 3 of "5 days of Prospect's 50 year celebration" emails
Come get your piece of the Fire that binds us together!
When The Methodist Church and The Evangelical United Brethren Church merged in 1968 to form The United Methodist Church, the new church adopted the “cross and flame” symbol. The Cross reminds us that the saving work of Jesus on the cross of Calvary is at the center of our faith. The red flame reminds us of the power of the Holy Spirit.
The two tongues of fire that come together as a single flame symbolize the two denominations that came together to form The United Methodist Church.
Less than a year later, the members who had come from Prospect Presbyterian Church and the Dunlap Methodist Church celebrated a major milestone in the "blest tie that still binds us together"...the dedication of our current church building on Ash St.
The Cross and Flame still stands as a symbol of our faith and denominational identity. The cross and flame is also a wonderful reminder of the union we will recognize this Sunday at our 50th Anniversary celebration.
In celebration, 150 Cross and Flame pins have been purchased for Sunday. Our ushers will be passing them out to the first 150* who arrive for worship (our bell choir will "ring things off" at 8:45).
We hope you plan to come get in on the Holy Spirit fire as we celebrate on Sunday!
<><,
Pastor Steve
* As we expect more than 150 in attendance on Sunday, some families may
choose to not take a pin for every member of the household.
