Battle of the Books
What is the Battle of the Books? The Battle of the Books is a statewide Alaskan reading motivational and comprehension program sponsored by the Alaska Association of School Librarians. The goals of the program are to encourage and recognize students of all grade levels who enjoy reading, broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension and promote academic excellence.
Students who wish to compete can read and discuss the books, quiz each other on the contents, and then compete in teams of not more than four students to correctly answer questions based on the books. Questions always begin with the words "in which book..." and the answer is a title/author from the list. Teams participate at the district level and possibly state level with we qualify.
Visit the Battle of the Books website:
https://sites.google.com/view/akaslbattleofthebooks/home for more information or contact Heather Deberry at deberry_heather@asdk12.org or Aimee Sims at sims_aimee@asdk12.org for more information.
This year we hope to have teams for K-2(does not compete), 3-4, 5-6, middle school and high school.
Join us for the information meeting on Wednesday, September 25th at 2:30pm.
FPCS Annual Poetry Jam
Get ready for the fun by making poetry part of your day today!
Print out a poem put it in your pocket, read and memorize it on the go. Don't forget to have fun!
See a new poem here each week.
In winter I get up at night
And dress by yellow candle-light.
In summer, quite the other way,
I have to go to bed by day.
I have to go to bed and see
The birds still hopping on the tree,
Or hear the grown-up people's feet
Still going past me in the street.
And does it not seem hard to you,
When all the sky is clear and blue,
And I should like so much to play,
To have to go to bed by day?
