Hello March! *Spring clubs open for registration!
Hello Tamarack families and a big welcome to our new community members!
I am excited to get to know your family:)
Thank you for coming to our Science Night as noted, all students were able (if present) to visit the OMSI planetarium this week (this past Tuesday and tomorrow Friday) in our music room. In the rhythm of our newness, we learned how to better prepare and predict for next school year, thank you for your patience!
An extra big thank you to OMSI, Ms. Ehl, for providing our kids and many others across the district an opportunity to engage in hands-on learning locally.
Wild and wacky weather abounds, I'm hoping March bring us a consistent Spring:) Our lost and found runneth over as jackets are put on and then shed. I will lay out all items for kids prior to Spring Break to find their belongings - hopefully you will see items coming home soon.
Spring After School Club Registration opens Friday March 1st
It's time. We are hosting STEAM clubs this Spring on Mondays only, sign up here on March 1st: https://forms.gle/MbcNoCuiUGDRe2A47
If you are able to register then there is room and you are in! Otherwise, the club will disappear as an option once it is full. The Monday clubs will run April 8th-June 3rd.
6th grade Band still continues on Tues/Thurs. We will also send out a separate form for a Hillsboro School District Tamarack Track Team for grades 3rd-6th (50 student limit beginning with 6th grade); this team will also meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays with a district wide track meet on May 28th!
We have also recently registered our Chess Team for Regionals!
Big thank you to our staff for extending their work day to make this possible and huge appreciation to Mr. Scheafer, 5th grade for coordinating all after school opportunities!
As we closed the first half of the school year, I had a few questions & wonderings about report cards.
A few quick notes: At the elementary level they are really more of a progress report - a point in time based on the most recent data collected (assessments and observations), they do not provide a GPA.
GPAs begin in middle school but do not roll over to high school; meaning your student's GPA will begin calculating their high school GPA in high school (it does not carry over from Middle).
It is not unusual to see a NM in areas or blanks at the end of the first semester as many skills grow over time; particularly learning to read and write. The visual provides, I think a good idea of what NY, NM, M and E mean. Please talk with your classroom teacher if you have questions and I'm always happy to provide big picture understanding, your classroom teacher however is the best match for day to day academic strengths & needs. Overall, we should celebrate the strengths, create goals and know that learning big new skills takes time; both academically and socially.
