Volley-Bash was a huge hit!
THANK YOU
First and foremost, to our Maple parents: We thank you for your support while encouraging your student to play/be a fan. Over 200 participants, spectators, volunteers and staff participated in the 8th Annual Volley-Bash.
We would like to extend our gratitude to Jill Rathge and the Athletic Department – we truly appreciate your enthusiasm, dedication and hard work, each are essential elements pointing to the success of the Volley-Bash. And a continued thanks to the office staff and administration for your “behind the scenes” help and support.
• To the Staff who served as Supervisors, Scorekeepers and Referees --a HUGE thank you to each of you (and your families) for supporting this fun event and for spending your Friday night hanging out with your students.
• To the enthusiastic Student Council student volunteers – your service and mission are exceptionally honorable; thanks for selling yummy treats to support the Philly Baer Foundation.
• To the fantastic GBN & GBS volleyball student refs –thanks for sharing your officiating skills and helping our students…not to mention spending a Friday night at your favorite middle school!
Thank you to the many parents who helped with check-in and refreshments, making sure all of the students, staff and volunteers had plenty of pizza, lemonade and water the whole evening.
Lastly, our thanks would not be complete without mentioning the Maple PTO executive board…we appreciate your support, enthusiasm and answering our late night emails!
Looking forward to next year’s BASH!

Parent-Teacher Conferences Feb. 21-22
This winter, we will again offer parents live, online interactions with our teachers during Parent-Teacher Conferences on Wednesday, February 21 (4:30-8:00 p.m.) and Thursday, February 22 (12:00-8:00 p.m.). Conferences are one of the most valuable tools we have to foster our strong partnerships between home and school. Please disregard any wording on Meet The Teacher platform that states In-Person conferences. For upcoming conferences, we will continue to use Zoom and a Zoom Directory will be shared with you closer to the start of conferences.
Registration is now open and will continue through Friday, February 16, at 3:00 p.m.
Conference scheduler login information will be sent to the primary contact email for your student, along with step-by-step instructions for registering. Please keep an eye open for this information. Registration codes and directions are also available in Parent Portal on the form called Student Information for the 2023-24 School Year.
During conferences, your classroom teacher will discuss academic and social-emotional goals, discuss how the learning experience is progressing at school and at home, and share details about the classroom community with you. This is a collaborative meeting between families and teachers when we can answer your questions. We are so proud of our students and their strong start. Thank you so much for your ongoing support and partnership.

Lunar New Year at Maple
Lunar New Year celebrates the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. which is Feb. 10 this year. It is the most important holiday in China, and it is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, and countries with a significant overseas Chinese population. While the official dates encompassing the holiday vary by culture, those celebrating consider it the time of the year to reunite with immediate and extended family.
Today at Maple, Mrs. Kang's Mandarin classes students made spring festival couplets filled with good luck phrases for the year of the dragon, had a Ramen noodle party and received red envelopes for good luck. Such fun celebrating and learning!

Important traffic reminder
Thank you all so much for your patience and kindness as we implement our before- and after-school traffic pattern protocols! We have had great success with these practices, and it is important that we continue to follow these routines to ensure our students' safety.
As a friendly reminder, the east Activity Entrance and north Main Entrance are both available in the morning to be utilized at drop-off. Feel free to use whichever entrance is more convenient for you.
In the afternoon, students are ONLY to be picked up at our north Main Entrance to avoid students walking in front of traffic to enter cars on the east or south sides of the building. Please do not move cones that have been deliberately placed to guide the traffic pattern. Compromising our practices to try and save time in line can unintentionally put students and staff in harm's way.
Lastly, please do not park, drop off, or pick up your students at Glenbrook North or La Salceda's parking lots. To ensure our students' safety, we'd like all students being picked up to meet their ride near Maple's main entrance on the north side of the building.
Thanks for your cooperation!
Mr. Sam Kurtz, Principal
Mrs. Angela Jaeger, Assistant Principal

Career Day
Volunteers are needed
Parent volunteers are needed for Career Day on April 26. We are looking for volunteers who are available to either conduct student interviews in the morning or present career opportunities to groups in the afternoon.
The aim of these sessions is to improve our 8th-graders’ interview skills and broaden their career perspectives.
MORNING SESSIONS: Interviewers will be expected to kindly and professionally lead students through a series of 20 minute mock interviews. For many of our students, this will be their first experience interviewing. We are looking for people who are eager to offer thoughtful feedback and encouragement. If you are able to participate between 8:00 and noon on April 26, we would love to have you.
AFTERNOON SESSIONS: Volunteers should be dynamic presenters and plan for three 20 minute presentations to rotating groups of students between the hours of 1:30-3:30. If you are interested in talking about your career, what it entails, and the step it took to get to where you are today, please consider volunteering for the afternoon session.
In District 30, we strive to create meaningful and rich experiences for our students. We appreciate you considering this opportunity to contribute. If you are able to participate, please complete the participation form below.

Reporting Student Attendance
Great Expectations at Maple
At Maple School, we are committed to providing our students with the skills they need to succeed not only in high school but also beyond. Developing strong executive functioning skills is crucial for their continued success.
We are providing students with helpful "reminders" to assist them in developing habits such as timeliness, preparing for class, being "TRRFCC" students (Trustworthy, Respectful, Responsible, Fair, Citizenship, and Caring), and following school expectations. Here is a copy of the classroom expectations we uphold across grade levels.
While we are striving to reinforce these practices during school hours, we understand that fostering these skills requires collaboration and communication between home and school. Thank you for your ongoing partnership, and we look forward to working together for the benefit of our students.
