MESSAGE FROM SUPERINTENDENT LOWERY
Maintaining Balance
Greetings OAUSD Educators,
Recently I was asked the following question:
"How do you find a way to keep balance in your life, maintain resilience and passion for the work?"
As I considered the complexities, challenges and triumphs during this school year I reflected on the ideas below:
- First, I never lost sight of my why. My drive, passion and vision for work are all rooted in the fundamental notion that I am here to serve and lead in a manner that honors the humanity in others and that ensuring equity for each and every child is rooted in this foundational why.
- Next, I promised myself at the beginning of my tenure that I would always focus on impact versus intent in my personal life. I continually recommit to those relationships that matter the most. I hold true to the fact that I’m a mom and a wife first.
- Additionally, each day I strive to allow my faith to be a guidepost and that what I do in service to children and community is actually a ministry that I just happen to call work.
- Finally, it is a must that I spend my time on the things I love most: my family, singing and serving in my church, watching basketball until I fall asleep:-), etc.
I leave you with a new quote I wrote this week:
"I can’t serve if I don’t show up, and I can’t really show up if my cup isn’t full."
What are you doing each day to maintain balance and fill your cup?
Superintendent Lowery

CHILD DEVELOPMENT
The Child Development Department would like to give a huge shout-out and thank you to Miss Ofelia Reynoso, the intrepid and thoughtful Site Manager at Old Adobe, for all that she has brought to the Kids Care program since she joined the team in 2015. Miss Ofelia will not be continuing as Site Manager for Kids Care in the fall due to graduate school commitments. She leaves behind big shoes to fill and we are so sorry to see her go that we may not let her fully leave! (We always need subs!)
The Child Development Department is seeking to hire two Site Managers for the 2021/ 2022 school year, to manage the sites at Old Adobe Elementary Charter School and at Sonoma Mountain Elementary. Please share our EdJoin listing in your networks!
The Child Development Department is seeking to hire an Associate Preschool Teacher for Bright Futures Preschool. Please share our EdJoin listing in your networks!
In honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month the Child Development Department offers the following read aloud suggestions, read here by their creators:

CURRICULUM AND PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
Looking Ahead: For your information, all apps that are housed in Clever will be available for student use over the summer until August 1. At that time, student data will be transferred over to the 2021-2022 school year.
Report Cards: The common message was sent out in English and Spanish for teachers to put into the general comments section of the report card. This message will inform parents of our thoughts around the Trimester 3 grades. You can access the comments HERE.
SCOE Offerings:
For 6th grade teachers - SCOE History Social Science Teacher Leader Fellowship - During the last few years, California has implemented a new History/Social Science Framework, the State Seal of Civic Engagement, and the Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum. To address all of these changes, the Sonoma County Office of Education is creating the History/Social Science Teacher Leader Fellowship. We are looking for dynamic teachers who want to help design new learning opportunities for students in Sonoma County.
Math Teacher Leader Fellowship - (Application required)
Purpose
The expansive and beautiful nature of mathematics should be experienced by all students. Not only do all students need math, mathematics needs all students. Our collective future depends on this inclusive vision of mathematics.
In order to build Sonoma County’s capacity to deliver on this promise, SCOE is launching the Math Teacher Leader Fellowship. We will cultivate mathematics leadership in classroom teachers across the K-12 spectrum.
Design
Teachers selected to be a part of this fellowship will meet 4 times over the course of the 2021-22 school year. Sessions will be facilitated by Josh Deis and Emily Akinshin in partnership with math leaders throughout the state. The fellowship will provide a provocative learning experience that builds the participants' instructional and leadership skills with opportunities to apply new learning in your teaching context.
The fellowship will emphasize activating the mathematical agency of students who are far from justice, especially those whose racial identity is not represented in the dominant culture. This is complex work. Together we will examine our own practice and understand our role as informal and formal leaders in math education.
SeeSaw Webinar: SeeSaw provided a great webinar on planning for the Fall to support students with enrichment and skill-building. You can access the slides HERE and the webinar HERE.
EQUITY CORNER
Sonoma County Pride 2021
This year’s Sonoma County Pride celebration will include a month-long series of COVID-19 aware micro-events in varied venues throughout Sonoma County. The events, kicking off with the annual June 1st flag raising, will offer activities for all ages and abilities. This year’s theme, “Beyond the Rainbow: Surviving, Reviving, and Thriving”, takes inspiration from THE WIZARD OF OZ to offer renewal and support to the LGBTQ community.
