A Note from your CCE Principal
Dear CCES Families--
We hope that all of our families have enjoyed much time with extended family and friends. As this holiday season begins to semi-normalize for many families, we wish all of our families a healthy and safe holiday season! We pray for safe traveling and peaceful moments! This holiday, I got to spend time with my own family and visit my hometown (hadn't been able to visit in over 3 years), make tamales at home, and catch up on house projects and school tasks. As I prepare this memo, I am again reminded that Mother Nature must love the great state of Texas...only in Texas can you enjoy the winter holidays in summer shorts and flip-flops!
We also wish each of you a wonderful start to a New Year! Although the year has changed to 2022, our campus goals continue to be the same! Check out our campus goals above! As students return, all parents will receive data reports to show how students are progressing in reading and math using our district screener. We understand the importance of keeping our families up to date with progress, please reach out to your student's teacher for any questions with these reports. We are happy to help!
Students in 4th/5th grades who are participating in HB4545 will also begin afterschool tutorials with teachers in mid-January. This will allow our students to recoup learning and strengthen skills based on last year's STAAR data. Parents, please look for a letter from me with that information upon our return to campus. We look forward to continuing to support academic success in all of our students!
CCES has the BEST Staff, Students, and Families! We truly are going to "Leave a Legacy"! Our students are "Legendary" at Cottonwood Creek Elementary!
Join me in "Leaving a Legacy",

What is Cold Weather District Policy?
- Always dress students in warm clothes, put on jackets, etc.
- Whenever possible, students will not be kept inside, and recess will not be canceled due to cold weather.
- Recess is important and we will continue to champion unstructured outdoor play.
- Individual students will not be kept in from recess unless they have an injury or illness that specifically prevents them from outdoor play *with* a doctor’s note specifying at what temperatures the child is to be excluded and how long the exclusion will last.
- Recess will only be limited or canceled if we are directed to do so by the District’s Assistant Superintendent for School Support and Director of Health and Safety (generally when temperatures go below 29 degrees). Otherwise, all students will participate in recess with their class.
New Year Transitions/Nutrition Department Message~
- Starting January 4th, you will start to see a few more cold bar items added to our salad bar choices. We will slowly start to bring them out and have a full salad bar available to students in February.
- Students will begin to start self-serving those items onto their trays. Kitchen staff will help with Pre-K and Kinder as much as possible, and 1st-12th will need to self-serve.
- Also starting January 4th, all campuses must have students 1st – 12th start entering in ID numbers at breakfast and lunch. Teachers will provide student IDs to help learn ID numbers if needed.
- Pre-K and Kinder have the option to use an ID card at the lunch lines. If teachers need assistance with ID cards, please contact Amanda Aguirre, CCES cafe manager.
- Parents are asked to help younger students practice their ID Lunch numbers at home. Use the keypad below to practice with.

School Starts at 7:30. It's Important to be here on time to get the day started on the right foot!
Reminders from our front office:
*If you have a doctor's appointment and need to pick up your child, call the school office to notify them that you will be visiting, drive through the front loop of the school and park in the front parking lot, walk up to the front entrance and ring the doorbell to the right on the wall, have your identification ready to show and we will call for your student and escort them to you outside. The office staff will sign them out and then back in when they return.
* Please check your skyward family access to ensure that you have updated your email address. This will ensure that you are receiving important notifications from our campus. Thank you!
* Make sure students arrive on time each day, school begins at 7:30. Each day that a student is tardy equals cumulative learning experiences that are missed in the classroom. Students often feel stressed when they don't know what they have missed when they are late, let's help them be successful by getting them to school on time.
CCES Needs your help to Increase Attendance Rates~ Thank you!
Did you know ...
- that your child's attendance is affected each time they are checked out early, even if it's only a few minutes before the dismissal bell?
- schools and districts have a legal obligation to report truancy concerns?
- unexcused and excused absences of 18 or more absences put your child at risk of retention in the current school year?
*Help us avoid these outcomes, keep your students in school for each minute of the instructional day. Thank you!
