ASIMO: our new robot
The World's Most Advanced Humanoid Robot
Meet ASIMO
ASIMO is an android created by Honda. Introduced in 2000, ASIMO, which is an acronym for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, was created to be a helper to people. With aspirations of helping people who lack full mobility, ASIMO is used to encourage young people to study science and mathematics.
ASIMO was designed to operate in real-world environments, with the ability to walk or run on two feet at speeds up to 6 kilometres per hour.
Current research
Honda has been doing research on biped walking humanoid robot as the challenge to a new field of mobility. ASIMO has been built as a useful robot which is friendly to and compatible with the actual human living enviroment. As for walking, they developed the free walking technology including behavior prediction such that a robot can change its walking motion freely and smoothly without intermission.

Social capabilities
Honda engineers created ASIMO with 34 Degrees of Freedom that help it walk and perform tasks much like a human. In a demonstration at Honda's Tokyo headquarters in 2007, the company demonstrated new intelligence technologies that enabled multiple ASIMO robots to work together. The demonstration showed the robot's ability to identify and avoid oncoming people, work with another ASIMO, recognize when to recharge its battery and perform new tasks, such as carrying a tray and pushing a cart.
