Important Notes
Here are a few important reminders:
- If your child will go home a different way than usual, you will need to write a note. If I do not have a note saying they will go home a different way, I will send them home their normal way.
- Please, please make sure your child has a supply of pencils, paper, and a dry erase marker (black works best).
- Please remember, our day starts at 7:30. Students switch classes at 7:50. Every minute of our day is precious. Thank you.
- We do have snack everyday. Students are not able to purchase snack from the cafeteria during the day. Please send your child with a snack. It is a very long time between breakfast and lunch.
Social Studies Notes
We are really moving through our big unit on North Carolina citizenship and government. We are currently discussing rights versus responsibilities. We will then move into NC government. For this, we will learn about the three branches of government and how that works in North Carolina. We will also have a local government official speak to us about their role in helping our community run smoothly.
Science Notes
We have finished the instructional portion of our unit on animal and plant adaptations. This week, we will work on in class group projects focusing on animal adaptations for survival in a variety of habitats. Once we complete and present these projects, we will move on to our last big unit of the year, Nutrition.
Field Trip Reminder
The fourth grade classes will take a field trip to Reed Gold Mine in Midland, NC on May 9. The cost is $35.00.m So far, I have only received half of the permission slips and money. The money and signed permission slip are due by Wednesday, April 12. If these items are not turned in by that date, your child will not be able to go as we need to put a final count into the county, bus company, and Reed Gold Mine. If you are unable to send the $35.00, please let me know privately and as soon as possible. We do have all of the chaperone spots we are permitted filled, so we do not need chaperones. Thank you for your assistance.
Fourth Grade Reading Incentive
The fourth grade started a reading incentive program at the beginning of the third quarter. A letter explaining this incentive went home earlier. For this incentive, students are asked to read 9 books on their lexile level by April 13. For each book they read, they must take a Reading Counts test and earn a passing score of 70%. As each test is completed, students should fill out the form that was given to them along with the letter and have their teacher sign it. Their teacher will then give them a puzzle piece. On April 13, students who have collected all 9 puzzle pieces will be invited to our grade level incentive party after Spring Break.
We have been encouraging students to read, read, read. We would really appreciate it if you would support our efforts at home as well. Thank you.
