Principal Update 3/11/24
Good Morning Memorial Families,
It feels like maybe spring might be here, and this weekend I actually saw some early spring plants beginning to peek out from the ground. There is lots of learning happening around the school and on Friday we had a wonderful All School Meeting together. We learned more about our Portrait of a Learner superhero, Mindful Learner, and read a book about ways that we can be more mindful. We also celebrated almost 60 positive office referrals. What has stuck out to me this year is just how inclusive and kind our children are. The number of referrals to the office for acts of kindness towards others warms my heart and makes me just so proud of our students. Thank you all for your part in raising such wonderful children, who are always looking for ways to fill other people's buckets and bring a smile to others' faces.
As a reminder, there are a few items to make sure that you are noting.
MCAS Upcoming: I have had the ELA dates at the bottom in upcoming dates for awhile, but Memorial third and fourth graders will take the ELA MCAS on April 2nd and 4th and the Math MCAS will take place May 13th and 15th. Please do your best to avoid travel on these weeks so that we can have strong attendance on the actual test days.
End of Trimester 2: Trimester 2 ends on March 12th. Powerschool will be open for you to view your child's report card on March 20th. We will also be sending out attendance letters for any child who is considered chronically absent. To be considered chronically absent, your child would have missed 10% of the school days so far this year. At this time, letters will be sent to any child who has missed 12 or more days of school by March 12th. We understand there are many reasons why children may need to be absent, and this letter is simply being sent so that you are aware of how many days your child has missed. Being chronically absent contributes to slower academic growth and increased anxiety, and so if your child has had a difficult year with illness, try to avoid missing school for other reasons to minimize the impact it has on your child's growth in school.
Have a wonderful week!
Warmly,
Lauren and Wendy

School Hours
Our school hours are 8:45am-3:15pm. Drop off begins at 8:45 and students who arrive after 9:00am are considered tardy. We will begin dismissal right around 3:15pm.
Due to the hectic nature of the late afternoon, we will no longer be allowing parent dismissals from the main office after 2:45pm. If your child has an appointment, please plan to dismiss him/her earlier, or make use of our pick up line at 3:15pm. Thank you for understanding.
